More About Coach Caylan

Previously coached Track&Field for high school, basketball for middle school, wakeboarding at an amateur competitive level, snowboarding, and kickboxing at an amateur level. Currently coach individuals and small groups looking to take on Obstacle Course Challenges (Mud Runs) or their first running races (5K, 10K, Half Marathon, etc)

Am Group Fitness Certified through the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and train at multiple locations around downtown Columbus.

Typically work with adults that have goals to take on their first and/or compete in Obstacle Course Runs, trail races, triathlons, and/or road races (5K, 10K, Half Marathon). I specialize in helping adults that want to make a change in their lives to a more athletic lifestyle, but don't know where to find the time or energy in their day.

I currently compete at an Elite level for OCR (Obstacle Course Racing), and placed 2nd at the OCR World Championships in October of 2014. I finished overall top 10 in 5 of 7 races this year (including the Spartan Super, Warrior Dash Ohio II, and Savage Race), and placed in the top 3 in my division in 5 of 7 races this year.

In college I placed 3rd in my division in the tri-state INT League Amateur Wakeboarding league, and I am 1-0 in my full contact kickboxing career.

In high school I went to regionals in Track&Field for the 200, 4x100 relay, and High Jump

Typically the very first thing would be to understand the goals of the athlete. After understanding those goals, I look for what motivates them, and why are they aspiring to a given goal. After having that understanding, and knowing the commitment level and energy they are able to spend on the goal, the plan would be built.

A plan would be developed with the athlete, to ensure they know what is expected of them, and they commit to it being a priority. (It can be difficult to find the gaps in time to commit to something new, or increasing in intensity. Finding those gaps is what I love to do)

Physical plan: (examples)
I enjoy circuit training methods, and utilize a lot of exercises that focus on functional muscle movement.

Running Plan: Sprints, Tempo Runs, Long Runs, Combo Runs (Building in resistance and calisthenics work within a run)
Resistance Training: From being in the gym and using machines to free weights, to being out in the fields or woods flipping tires and carrying bricks.
Calisthenics Training: Focus on multi muscle group movements (burpees, T-Push Ups, Bear Crawl, etc), core balance/stability (toe only lunges, bird-dog holds, etc.), functional muscle movements (squats, lunges, planks, etc.)

Body Plan:
Based on need, work on eating habits (not a nutritionist) and where points of performance and health impact may be. Develop ways to help clear the mind, and reduce the mind chatter, allowing for laser focus on athletic and life goals and tasks. Build an understanding of stress points and stress relievers to create an environment of productivity and confidence.

Mind Plan:
Work to identify ones Ultimate Mission and purpose in their life, and ensuring that all the work that is being performed plays into that mission/purpose.

Client Reviews

My husband and I are beginner runners and Caylan pushed us pass the limit we thought we had and we were able to dig harder than we had before. No session is the same and that's the nice part. We never know what to expect going in each training day. 5 sessions in and we're going to schedule more because we are definitely making progress.

Good coaching today. I can feel that I was able to push harder and further today, than any session before.
I don't have a great deal of time to commit to workouts, but I do have the desire and energy to get and stay fit. Caylan packs a punch with his efficient workouts, and even with my limited time I feel better after his coaching sessions then when I was spending hours in the gym, on my own.
