Good morning everyone. Thanks for coming out today to support the football program. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Arthur Long, and I am a senior here at the Prep. I played Defensive End for the Varsity, and this was actually my first year playing football. This past football season was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life, and one man who made this incredible season possible is Coach Carlif Taylor. Coach Carlif coached the Defensive Line and was often responsible for our conditioning after practice. Although Coach Carlif is an imposing figure, he is the true definition of a gentle giant. From the very first day of minicamp it was obvious to the whole defensive line that he cared for us not only as players, but also as young men. His coaching did not cease when practice was over, either, as he would spend countless hours after practice analyzing our film and sending us each individualized instructions on what to improve on. His passion for the game is unparalleled, and those who attended our games could always see Coach Carlif leading both the defensive and offensive lines in our “hype circle” before games. From the famous “Turnover Belt” to the star and pride stickers Coach Carlif would give us to adorn our helmets to the creation of the “Brotherhood” with our own special handshake, Coach Carlif always looked for unique ways for us to champion our individual achievements while also sharing with them the rest of the team. Day after day, week after week, Coach Carlif would always show up to practice with a smile, ready to give us the same level of passion and dedication that he expected from us. Coach Carlif was truly dedicated to making us better football players: during the season, there was always an open invitation for any football player to show up early or stay late after practice to work 1 on 1 with Coach Carlif on something they were struggling on. Be that a Defensive Lineman with his pass rush moves, an Offensive Lineman with his footwork, or a Running Back simply looking to improve his explosiveness, Coach Carlif was always there for us. Let me repeat that last point. Coach Carlif was always there for us, win or lose, rain or shine, sunup or sundown. A man with vast football knowledge, a great sense of humor, and one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen- we all owe a lot to Coach Carlif. He is the epitome of everything one seeks in a Coach, and I am forever grateful to him taking me under his wing this year. You’ve given me and the rest of my teammates a season’s worth of memories to cherish for the rest of our lives. My teammates and I really do appreciate everything you have done for us this past season. Thank you Coach. Love you C.
