More About Coach Carl

I'm a Pose Method Certified Running Technique Specialist and a USA Track and Field Level 1 coach. I have ten years of experience in the fitness industry and have coached a wide variety of clients from high school athletes, to age group competitors, to all sorts of weekend running enthusiasts. I also hold certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Functional Movement Systems, and Muscle Activation Techniques.

I have experience playing soccer, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee competitively. To be perfectly truthful, I don't have the genes for Olympic level athletic ability. Nevertheless, as famed strength coach Mark Rippetoe says, "the best coaches are below-average athletes who tried really hard for a really long time to get better, and along the way learned how to apply their experiences to other athletes." I've done my best over the past decade to bring as much truth to that opinion as I can.

I do running technique coaching. This means we will look at running as a skill. Many runners believe that the key to their success is running harder and further and more often. However, for most athletes who want to run further, and faster, and with more ease, the most limiting obstacle to their progress is the way they move, not how much they do. The Pose Running method is unique because it provides a quantitative objective definition for running efficiency. This means we assess your running technique, not just guess about it. Greater efficiency facilitates higher speed, longer duration, and pain-free movement. Sessions revolve around identifying the most significant deviations from the optimal way of moving. A session typically consists of dynamic warm up and postural exercises, strengthening exercises and skill related drills designed to address your unique deviations, and integration exercises to successfully implement your new skills. There are three main components to optimal running and the session plan is largely based on your individual technical strengths and weaknesses in those three areas. I frequently use video analysis to assist in determining the best coaching strategy and as a reassessment tool to observe the effects of a chosen approach. Optimizing running technique is essential for runners of any level or any athlete that runs! You will be amazed at how much potential is hidden inside your body.
