More About Coach Cari
I’ve been coaching young soccer players since 2010 and have experience working with players of all ages and skill levels! I started out providing individual training for players ages 8–12, focusing on developing their technical skills, building confidence, and improving their understanding of the game. During that time, I also coached a local U-12 youth club team in West Islip, New York, leading weekly practices and games while helping players grow both individually and as a team.
While attending the University of Notre Dame, I also coached at summer soccer camps, working with aspiring Division I athletes to help them sharpen their technical and tactical skills and prepare for the next level of competition.
Beyond technical coaching, the mental side of the game is something I'm especially passionate about. I've spent the past five years mentoring young athletes, helping them build confidence, develop resilience, manage performance pressure, work through mistakes, and navigate the challenges that come with being an athlete. I also currently work as a Peer Support Specialist, where I support collegiate and professional athletes through challenges both on and off the field, including confidence struggles, mental health, relationships, injuries, changing roles, and major life transitions. Having experienced many of these challenges myself throughout my professional playing career, I love being able to use what I've learned to help other athletes feel understood, supported, and more confident in themselves.
I believe that becoming a better soccer player is about so much more than improving your technical ability. It's also about learning to trust yourself, respond to setbacks, take risks, and enjoy the game even when things get difficult. I want players to feel comfortable being themselves, making mistakes, and asking questions while learning how to approach challenges with confidence.

U-23 US Women's National Team player, 2015-2016

Big East Rookie of the Year, 2012
Notre Dame Monogram Club Most Valuable Player, 2012-2013
Four-time All-Conference Selection, 2012-2015
Two-time All-American 2012, 2015
Two-time team Captain, 2014-2015
Professional Soccer:
5th overall pick in 2016 NWSL draft for the Houston Dash. 2018, 2019 NWSL Champion with the North Carolina Courage. Competed for Angel City FC, and Chicago Stars FC. Played 10 Years in the NWSL.
My goal as a coach is to help players improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a deeper understanding of the game, all while making sure they're having fun along the way! I believe players grow the most when they're challenged, enjoying themselves, and excited about what they're learning.
Every player is different, so I take the time to understand their position, strengths, goals, and what they personally want to improve. From there, I create sessions that are tailored to their individual needs and skill level. I want players to feel challenged but also comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and trying new things. That's all part of getting better!
Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to play at the highest levels of the game, including with the U.S. Youth National Teams, at the University of Notre Dame, and professionally in the NWSL. I've played every field position at a high level, which has given me the experience and understanding to work with players in a variety of positions. Whether it's passing and distribution, long balls, 1v1 attacking and defending, dribbling, shooting, heading, or overall tactical awareness, I enjoy helping players develop all aspects of their game.
I plan each session with specific drills and goals in mind, but I also adjust as we go based on what I'm seeing from the player. I focus on building a strong technical foundation while continuing to introduce new challenges as players improve. I also love giving players drills they can practice on their own so they can continue building their skills outside of our sessions.
In addition to in-person training, I also offer virtual coaching sessions from the comfort of a player's own home! These include:
Film Analysis: Breaking down game footage to help players better understand positioning, decision-making, tactical awareness, and different situations they face on the field.
Mental Fitness & Confidence Building: Working on the mental side of the game, including building confidence, handling mistakes, managing pressure, developing resilience, and learning how to approach challenges with a positive mindset.
Virtual Technical Sessions: Fun, personalized drills that players can do at home to improve their ball control, footwork, coordination, and overall technique.
One of the things I love most about coaching is seeing players grow, not just in their abilities, but in their confidence and love for the game. Soccer has given me so much throughout my life, and I want to share what I've learned while helping players enjoy their own journeys. I believe that improvement comes from hard work, consistency, and being willing to challenge yourself, but I also believe that having fun is a huge part of that process. At the end of the day, I want players to look forward to our sessions, feel proud of their progress, and leave feeling excited to keep getting better!

Coach Cari is awesome! We booked a joint session with both my son and daughter. She evaluated where they are and gave them some drills they can work on on together. The kids both loved her!

My daughter enjoyed the session with Coach Cari. Coach was able to break down some of the drills into simpler movements to allow for a better understanding. She covered strategy as well. My daughter was able to use the new skills in her club practices the following week.

Cari is a fantastic coach! She is always prepared, encouraging and great at teaching fundamentals. My son just got back from a session with her and he is inspired to work on all the things he learned today. That's what makes a great coach.

It is my privilege to write this testimonial for Cari Roccaro. I have been fortunate to work with Cari with the West Islip Soccer (West Islip, NY) . She always has a great attitude during soccer training. Cari is polite, humble, and has a great work ethic. Cari has shown to be a young woman of character, intelligence, and talent. She is one of the hardest working soccer trainers I have worked with in my 20 years of coaching soccer. Cari has taken her natural soccer talent to the next level and has developed into a young talented soccer coach. It was enjoyable to work with Cari. I strongly believe that Cari Roccaro will be an asset to any program. I highly recommend Cari and encourage you to give her strong consideration.
