More About Coach Camyn
Back in 2017 when I was training for my own professional basketball career in Los Angeles, I learned from a few of the best NBA trainers on the planet. In between my own pro workouts I started training local kids and then would take over workouts for those trainers if they were unavailable for a session. I used what I had learned from the elite trainers blended with my own basketball experience to create a workout environment plenty of the kids and parents loved and saw immense value in. As I continued on with my professional career, I’d come back home in the summers and work with players. I’ve worked as a trainer for top Arizona AAU programs Dalen Terry Elite, Kaizen, and Powerhouse Hoops now known for the PHHacility. I’ve coached at camps like Arizona Sports Camp, One10 Hoops Camps, and Shooters Shoot Women’s Camp. I’ve also been a head coach for a club team at GRO Athletic. Lastly, I practice with the Phoenix Mercury which gives me a better understanding of the skill it takes to succeed at the professional level not only for men through my experiences, but also women at the highest level. Aside from those things, the vast majority of coaching I’ve done has been through individual and group trainings. To add more context to my level of basketball understanding, I’ve also been officiating basketball games for over a year which helps me use the rule book to give my players an advantage. Another advantage has been my love for scouting and basketball analysis, which earned me a feature on a podcast with a member of The Volume to break down the current NBA. I have a YouTube and Instagram page dedicated to breaking down up and coming college and NBA players and this skill helps me break down film from any client and see holes that maybe others wouldn’t. Another benefit to my training is the melding of sports psychology principles into the workouts. I graduated from Missouri State University with a bachelors of science in psychology, which has not only helped me in my own basketball career, but also helps give me a better understanding of how to reach kids from all walks of life. Whether it’s learning how to play with confidence, playing through anxiety, or goal setting, I have a ton of unique solutions that players may not find elsewhere.

Every workout will differ because it depends on the needs of the client. However, every workout will start with a dynamic warm-up. Typically during the dynamic warmup I’ll check in with my client to see what’s been going on lately in their career and if they want anything to be emphasized in the workout if they haven’t told me already. The dynamic warmup can differ, but the general process starts with pulse raising (jogging, elliptical, etc.), then mobility and stretching on the move (quad pull and reach, Frankenstein marches, etc.), then sport specific muscle activation (lunges, squats, and more) then lastly skill rehearsal (balance pounds, weight shift crosses, etc.) which I use to finish warming up while adding skills.
Once the warm up is done things can vary quite a bit depending on skill level, athleticism, position, projections, fatigue, coach’s needs, and more. For instance a player might have an upcoming tournament they want to play well in, so we may focus on getting a ton of reps in. If a player is more focused on improving in the long term there may be more explaining, footwork breakdowns, and IQ work.
If this is a group workout, the process is a little less variable after the warmup. Usually we’ll go over a few skills and then apply those skills in a fun and competitive way.
At the end of each workout I’ll check in with the players and review what we went over and how they can apply what was learned. Also, I like to check in with my players and see what they have coming up so I can watch or support them.
