More About Coach Brad

Coaching youth distance runners since 2004 thru my club team, Lake Cities XC. Also train runners individually and in small groups through high school. Currently 92 of my runners have gone on to compete in college. I also run a pair of summer distance camps in Flagstaff, AZ and Flower Mound, TX.

I was a 4 sport athlete in high school ... baseball, basketball, football and club hockey. Both parents worked when I was growing up and we ran everywhere to do things. Co-Captain in baseball and football. Leg injury kept me from athletics in college. Began working with a summer club running team and in 2004 it became a year round program. Two team national xc championships, multiple individual track national championships. Also trained my son Craig thru middle school ... he went on to be a multiple state champ in HS, a Nike HS XC national champ, a 4 time All-American and ran professionally on the HOKA NAZ ELITE team out of Flagstaff, AZ.

I spend time upfront with a new client understanding what they've been doing and what they want to accomplish (goals). Next, I evaluate where they are from a fitness level, stride, footstrike, strength, functional mobility, flexibility, injury history, nutrition and body maintenance perspective, so that we can build the runner's workouts, mileage, etc. A workout will always involve a specific warmup(running, flexibility, dynamic drills) based on the type of workout ... aerobic mileage, anaerobic power, anaerobic capacity, VO2max, speed endurance, tempo, recovery, etc., as well as a proper cool down. Runner's will know in advance what their workout/run/ mileage will be so that they understand their fueling needs, etc. Lastly, it's important that my runner's know that workouts can be tough and still be fun. Running relaxed is a key to success, and I work to keep my runner's upbeat and positive, even when a workout isn't going well.
