More About Coach Brad

I started like many coaches, teaching lessons for the local pool when I was a teenager. I was also a competitive swimmer, in High School and College, so my teaching was with an eye on moving kids into the competitive side of the sport. I taught lessons and lifeguarded all through High School and College. When I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1977, I went to work for a Physical Therapy Rehabilitation company. I also continued to coach in the evenings. I was head coach for the Dearborn Recreation Dolphins, in Dearborn MI from 1977 to 1979. In 1979 I then became head coach for the Bulldog Aquatic Club in Livonia, MI. I was at the BAC until May 2007. At that time I became the Head Coach of the Kingfish Aquatic Club of Waterford.
During my career I’ve worked with all age groups, and all levels, novice to Olympic Trials Qualifier. The clubs I’ve coached have attained all levels of USA Swimming Club Excellence Award; Bronze(KAW), Silver (BAC, KAW), and Gold (BAC) medal status.
I was High School coach of the year for zone 7 in Michigan.
I’m a registered USA Swimming Coach. I’m currently a level 3 certified American Swimming Coaches Association coach.

I swam high school at Dearborn High School, from 1969-1972. Our swimming team won back to back state titles in 1971 and 1972. I was an All-Conference, All-State and All-American swimmer my senior year, in 1972.
I earned an athletic tender for swimming at the University of Michigan. Swimming 1972- 1976, I made the Big-Ten Conference travel team in 1974 and 1976. I graduated in 1977 with a BGS degree.

Sessions are usually 30 minutes to 60 minutes long. Focus would be on what the athlete feels are his or hers weaknesses, for a particular stroke or race. Most sessions start with dry land instruction, using a VASA trainer, Halo trainer and/ or stretch cords. This gives us the opportunity to go over all the aspects of the stroke and, get a little strength training. The in water part of the session, starts with some kicking work, and then getting into stroke drills that address the weak areas of their stroke technique. We will use a variety of equipment to help develop the proper stroke technique, and help the athlete develop a "feel" for when they are the most efficient in their stroke. Depending on the amount of time, we would work on the athletes starts and/or turns for a particular stroke.
I also have access to underwater video equipment. If an athlete wants to spend a session video recording their stroke and then analyzing it, then can be done ,too. If the athlete brings a flash drive, I can make them a recording of the video session.
