More About Coach Benjamin

I have been coaching and training Track and Field athletes for three years. I have a speciality in the 100 High Hurdles, 110 High Hurdles, 300 low hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles, and the 400m dash. I pair that with extensive knowledge and experience with all sprint events and long jump. I coached at a 2a high school serving as the assistant sprints coach for one year, then head coach the following year. I then moved to a 3a top tier school as the hurdles, 400m, and assistant sprints coach. I have coached, state qualifiers, school records breakers, and complete rookies. I have a balance of being able to effectively work with seasoned athletes, and those who are just getting started. I have also been coaching soccer privately for two years, adding another dynamic of coaching experience. One big emphasis and knowledge that I also bring to sessions, is a level of mental performance training. Teaching athletes how to compete and succeed within themselves mentally. How to overcome loss/injury, and not get in their head when struggling to succeed in the ways that they desire. The number one thing that can slow an athlete down, is the battle they have within.

As a track and field athlete I competed at the high school and collegiate level. As a high schooler in Ohio, I was a state qualifier for three years in a row and a state finalist in the 110 high hurdles, finishing 6th in division II. One of the main dynamics is that I was 100% self taught in the hurdles, which brings a deeper knowledge of the event. I was awarded the MVP and Sportsmanship awards two years in a row and nominated 1st team all league as a senior. I also helped to carry our 4x200m relay to the state meet as a junior and senior. While attending West Virginia University, a large Division I school, I competed for a year on the mens club track and field team as a 110 hurdler. After the first year, the club was disbanded, so I could no longer compete. After college I continued to practice and train as a hurdler and sprinter.

A typical session with me consists of a very customized warm up routine based on the event training desired. Example: a hurdler will have a different warm up routine than a 400m runner. This is to properly warm up specific aspects of the body that will be heavily used. The first session will always be a general assessment with specific drills based on events. This will allow me to create a workout plan based on current and desired skill levels. A detailed workout plan will be laid out after our first session together, covering the needed aspects. Sessions will last 1.5 hours which helps to get a proper warm-up, workout, and cool down. Warm-up will typically be about 25minutes, then a 45-50 minute workout, and finish with a cool down, stretch and chat. I am a very active coach who will be right there during the entire session, talking and explaining everything that is going on. I will also demonstrate everything that is needed. Lastly, depending on skill level, I may conduct session with multiple athletes, this can help to add a dynamic of competition, fun, and different perspectives.

Coach B. was awesome at scheduling with my son and super flexible as well. My high school kid got in the car raving about him and telling me to book more sessions. My son is excited to have a plan for his off season for soccer that will work around his homework and baseball schedule this spring. It was a great first training.

Coach Ben was awesome at my son's first session-helping him feel totally at ease.

Coach Ben has been working with my two young teenagers for one month now. As a parent seeing my teenage boys grow in their confidence, soccer mentality (mental toughness & focus) and creativity is amazing to see! The boys especially like their relationship with Coach Ben, meaning he gets to know them beyond their soccer life, the different challenging drills every week to focus on specific areas, and the discussion during the drills. Coach Ben challenges them and encourages and truly makes a difference in their development. My 14DA player specifically enjoys the high level drills and encouragement during the sessions. My 16DA player specifically enjoys the creativity that Coach Ben allows/encourages. I am a parent that is highly involved in helping these boys reach their professional soccer goals and I know how important allowing creativity is in developing their soccer. If you are looking for beginning or high level coaching we highly recommend Coach Ben.

In the time that I have known and worked with Ben Davis as a track coach for Crested Butte High School he has greatly impressed me with his coaching abilities. With a background in several different sports he has a thorough understanding of the body’s systems and how to shape athletes in order to maximize performance. He looks at every athlete as an individual and understands how to specify training to take advantage of each athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. Anyone looking to reach their goals as an athlete will greatly benefit from Ben’s coaching.
Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of having Ben Davis as a soccer and track coach. On time off, he has also played alongside me on an indoor soccer team with him. During each season working with Ben, I achieved my best physical performances of my high school career and both seasons were the two that I am most proud of. At the beginning of our soccer season, Ben became our new assistant coach and we were told that he would help us attain the physical boost that we had not had in the previous years. He quickly took over that aspect by introducing exercises that not only improved our soccer skills, but also heavily impacted endurance and strength, two key factors in being competitive throughout entire soccer games. After the pre-season, he became the defensive coach with a smaller part of the team, including myself. Being the captain, I had many in depth conversations with Ben about how to improve my game and leadership on bus rides home or just time off. These conversations quickly translated to not only my actions on the field but also a huge improvement in team play, and chemistry among the players and coaches as well. At the end of the season, two of our four starting defenders made the all conference first team, and the other two received an honorable mention for the same award, where we ended with the best overall defense in our league. For me, an effective coach is somebody that is easy to get along with but also a person I have a lot of respect for. Ben is both of these things and many more. The more time I spent with Ben both during and outside of practice and games he quickly became a good friend of mine, but continued to be a driving force for me being competitive in soccer and track. In our time off we would play soccer where I would continue to work on my game, and in the winter I got to play alongside Ben in an indoor soccer league. By watching Ben and playing with Ben, I gained a way of learning new skills and developing new aspects of the way that I play it has made me a better player. Not only did this improve my skills, but I also got to know someone that I can call a genuine friend and great influence, which are very special aspects in a great coach. The knowledge that he has of soccer and track, and his ability to connect with people, whether players or competitors, beginner or advanced, make him a great coach with a competitive push able to take athletes to a higher level in their game.
Throughout my years in running track, I haven’t been more inspired to run as well as I do until Ben decided to coach our 2015 track team. I have been running track for 4 years, 2 years in middle school, and 2 years in high school. My biggest goal in running track was to make it to state at the end of the year. Ben helped me achieve my goal this year. I made it to states in the 400 meter relay, the 800 meter relay and the medley. This year Ben has taught me to be strong and to push myself. He has taught me so much about running and has improved my running skills just in one season. Ben is a very influential runner and speaking for my track team, I know that each and every one of us look up to him. Ben was a very supportive coach and I am happy that I got to work with him this season.
