More About Coach Benjamin

Hi, my name is Ben Bradley, and I am the Founder/Owner/Head Coach of the Rising Phoenix Track Club. At the age of 31, I have been coaching in the sport of track & field for 10 years now. Currently, I am the hurdle coach for Pendleton High School, the head coach for a non-profit youth (ages 5-12) track club called Roundup City Racers, the head coach and founder of the Rising Phoenix Track Club (all ages) and head coach for the Pendleton High School Cross Country team. Mostly, my coaching revolves around high school age athletes, but I have coached and worked with athletes of a large variety of ages.

As a coach, I am ALWAYS looking to improve myself and my skill of coaching. Being a coach does not mean that you know everything, but instead means that you must be a lifelong learner. To be the best, you must continue to seek out and learn from the best. I will always put all of myself into the work I do with my athletes. Track and field is my passion. It is beyond an incredible privilege to be able to pass along my knowledge of the sport and to help develop young athletes into not only better/faster/stronger athletes, but into amazing young men and women of character as well.

As an athlete, I competed mostly in the sprints and relays throughout all four years of high school. In my time competing for Pendleton High School, I was a 2-time state competitor in the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. In my senior season at PHS I earned the honor of being named the "Male MVP" by scoring the most varsity points throughout the season and I was also voted the "Most Inspirational Make Athlete" by my teammates.

My freshman year of college, I competed in cross country and track & field for a small, private school called Cascade College in Portland, OR. In cross country, I was voted the "Most Improved" athlete by my teammates and ran the 800 and 400 and both relays during the track season. My school was shut down after my freshman year because the mother campus, Oklahoma Christian University, could no longer afford to fund the satellite Portland campus any longer. After that, I attended Oregon State University which did not have a male track & field program at the time.

After a year off from competing, I began my coaching career with an elementary track program through the Boys & Girls Club of Corvallis and absolutely fell in love with being a coach. I have been doing that ever since!

Each session will be a little different depending upon the goals and aspirations of the athlete (which I will have made contact with the athlete prior to the session to discuss), the type of organization for which they compete, physical capabilities, event(s) they would like to focus on, etc.

A typical session may look something like this:

Event specific warm up (20-25 minutes)
Technical Drills (20-25 minutes)
Form Work and Analysis (45 minutes)
Cool Down and Stretching (20 minutes)
Discussion and planning for future sessions or upcoming season plans

Sessions may also vary depending upon how many sessions the athlete has booked.

Ben Bradley is always the first person I go to for any track and field advice, coaching, or even track-related banter. He taught me the science of running through practice and application with impeccable results. I came into high school as an average runner, then left high school with the caliber and stats of a collegiate athlete. Not only is he knowledgeable in all things hurdles, his main field of coaching, but he is an outstanding sprints coach and carries a strong knowledge of all the field events as well. Ben was an amazing cross country for me as well. He always spends time researching new programs or methods relating to progress on the track and hasn’t disappointed whatsoever. My greatest memory of being under his coaching was during the summers and winters when we would do club track and compete for the club team that Ben started, the Rising Phoenix Track Club. Ben’s coaching helped me grow stronger in my mental strength in and out of athletics, grow my work ethic, and also helped me and many other athletes dedicate ourselves to our sport and our events. I’ll always be grateful to have had Ben as a coach!
Ben Bradley was my coach for high school track and USA Track & Field club track in Pendleton, Oregon. Ben truly helped me become a fantastic hurdler. He’s the person I accredit for my opportunity to run college track. Ben pushed me at every practice from conditioning to routine drills, he wanted to see me at my very best to the smallest detail. He would video us and analyze the film on his own time to get us into shape to be better than yesterday. He is the person that led me down my path to being a state champion and school record holder. Ben Bradley is a fantastic coach who has unbelievable potential for any college or professional organization. He will put out as much, if not more, effort than the athletes he is coaching to get them to reach their full potential. Ben gave me unbelievable success in high school and will make anyone great no matter what the competition level. Outside of just track Ben has just been a great friend and is a very passionate individual that I've created a lasting bond with. His passion for the sport is unmatched and has so much potential with his knowledge of not just the hurdles, but many other events.
Ben was one of the most outstanding and memorable coaches I have ever had in my running career. Nearing the end of my junior year of high school, I had to find out my former hurdle coach was stepping down. As hard as the news was, Ben Bradley, assistant sprints coach at the time, was asked to step into the spot and it had a lot more weight to it than he thought. Ben did not know much about the hurdles when he was asked to do this and he spent the whole summer before that next track season learning not only how to coach the hurdles, but how to actually go over them as well. He had spent that whole summer learning and performing the hurdles so that, when the season came, he could coach me to a successful senior season, knowing that many college coaches had high marks for me to hit. Ben stepped up to that line and ran a very good hurdle program, working me into the track.... literally! I have never worked so hard in my life and felt greater then ever when I was done. Ben's determination as a coach and mentor helped me get through one of my best track seasons with Personal Best after Personal Best. He coached me with all he had and I ran at Lane Community College the following year with a well-earned time and I could not have done it without his faith in me to accomplish the unimaginable. Thanks to Ben, he made me a smarter runner and person overall.
Ben Bradley was born to be a coach. In all of the six years that I've participated in sports, I've never had a coach that is as dedicated, committed, and passionate about seeing his athletes reach their goals or succeeding in their individual events. He puts in so much effort on and off the track to make you feel valued, important, and determined to never give up. As a hurdler with injuries, Ben designed workouts specific to me and my body. At almost every race of this last year, I hit a Personal Best in at least one of my events. His workouts are phenomenal and I could feel myself improving each week throughout the season. Ben doesn't just better you in each track event - he has impacted me as a person and helped me become mentally stronger and more determined. I am forever grateful for the years that I spent with "Coach of the Year", Ben Bradley!
