More About Coach Ben

I am currently the varsity defensive line coach for River Bluff High School in Lexington, SC. After playing 4 years at Georgia Tech, I coached the defensive line for one season at South Aiken High School. From there, I decided to pursue college coaching and became the Defensive Graduate Assistant coach at Georgia Tech from 2012 to 2014 where I assisted with the defensive line, linebackers and special teams. After Georgia Tech, I earned my Master's degree in teaching Physical Education. I now teach PE at Meadow Glen Middle School and in the afternoons I coach at River Bluff High School. During the offseason, I assist coaches in our strength and conditioning program. I teach students from 6th-8th grade and coach athletes grades 9th-12th.

During my high school years, I was a local standout and one of the state's top defensive players. My senior year I was an All-State defensive tackle and was invited to the North/South All Star game and the Nike Combine in Athens, GA. Out of high school I was awarded a full athletic scholarship to play defensive line at Georgia Tech. In my four years playing in the ACC, I started for two seasons at defensive tackle. I was awarded All-ACC defensive lineman of the week in the 2009 season after 3 sacks and 5 tackles for loss against Duke. Since I grew up a Clemson fan, my most memorable moments were making plays in Death Valley and waving down the tigers from the top of the hill on Saturday nights. One of my seasons as a starter happened to be when we won the ACC Championship in 2009 against Clemson, which also put us in a BCS bowl game against Iowa. Unfortunately, I was not selected to the NFL, however, I've played against, along side and have even coached many current NFL players that have built successful careers for themselves.

The goal of my training sessions is for athletes to not only develop the skills necessary to be successful, but to also enhance their understanding of what strategies and actions will put them in the best possible position to achieve that success. Sessions will also consist of athletes learning and performing football oriented agility and conditioning drills. In football, explosiveness
and speed are key performance factors necessary to win battles and make plays. The drills in my sessions will teach players how to use these qualities efficiently to raise their level of play under the lights on game day! In my training sessions, players will learn a variety of techniques and skills currently being used by athletes ranging from youth league to the NFL. I'm a big believer in doing the little things right to make big things happen. To be a successful defensive player, you have to have great eyes, hands and feet. These qualities will be a key focus in my daily drills. I will have access to all practice equipment (sleds, bags, hand shields, agility ladders etc.), and the game field at River Bluff High School. Something I pride myself on as well is being a great mentor. My passion for coaching isn't just being on the field, but is also building relationships and making a positive impact on young athletes.
