More About Coach Atiyyah
I am a former professional athlete and University of Missouri Alum. I played defensive end and defensive tackle for the Tigers from 2002 to 2004. I was drafted to the Carolina Panthers in the 3rd round of the 2005 NFL draft. I went on to play for 5 more teams before retiring in 2011. The next year I became a physical education teacher in Boonville Mo. I currently coach football and basketball at Battle HS in Columbia Mo. We just won the 5A State football Title in our first eligible year. I have worked with children all my life and believe that it is my passion. I believe that sports can help to build confidence, respect, work ethic and overall health. My children wrestle, swim, dance, play baseball, basketball, and soccer and still have time for videogames in the pm.
I teach a Boot Camp class four times a week. It is the Ellison Edge Boot Camp. We cover a wide variety of training techniques. I have trained everyone from high school athletes to grandmothers.
As a senior at Parkway South High School in St. Louis, Missouri, I had three sacks and 47 tackles. I was one of the top defensive lineman in the Midwest, I won All-State honors, and was an All-Metro choice. I was a standout basketball player and received all-conference honors my senior year. I own my high school shot put record and competed at the state track meet his junior and senior years. Parkway South High School retired my jersey in 2006.
As a freshman at Coffeyville Community College in 2001, I started 9 of 10 games, recording 57 tackles and five sacks. We went on to win the H.O.T Bowl that year in Texas.
After community college, I attended the University of Missouri, where as a sophomore in 2002 I played in 12 games (9 starts), finishing with 39 tackles and two forced fumbles at defensive end. In 2003, I earned third-team All-Big 12 Conference honors after recording 72 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles. As a senior in 2004, I started in 11 games, finishing with 60 tackles and 2.5 sacks, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors.
I was drafted 89th overall in the 2005 NFL draft.
A typical session with me will start with a dynamic warm up which will take about ten minutes. This is to get the muscles moving and to get your heart pumping. During this time I am monitoring you to see if you have anything that will hinder your training. We will walk through each drill before we attack them at full speed. My favorite universal training device is the speed ladder. It forces you to move in a way that will transition into any sport. I also use cone drills, hill work, agility testing, medicine balls, resistance belts, low hurdles, heavy and light bags and some free weights.
