More About Coach Andrew

I'm a current college basketball coach who trains athletes of all ages. Player development is my job, not a side hobby. Before my current role I coached at another college program, and I've run private sessions and work camps for young athletes in the areas I find myself throughout my career as a player/coach.

I've worked with everyone: elementary and middle school kids, high school players, and college athletes. That range means I know which skills carry to the next level, and we build them right the first time. Sessions focus on ballhandling, shooting, and decision making, taught with game-like reps, constant feedback, and a purpose behind every drill. I'm also a registered basketball official, so I know the rules inside and out. You'll get real coaching, honest answers, and a clear plan for your athlete's growth.

I've coached at every level — elementary and middle school athletes in training sessions and camps, high school players, and college athletes. That range matters: I know which skills actually carry forward to the next level, so we build them right the first time. Sessions focus on ballhandling, shooting, and decision-making, taught the way players actually learn — game-like reps, clear feedback, and a purpose behind every drill.

I played five seasons of college basketball at Simpson College, an NCAA Division III program in Iowa, and started for four of them. I finished my career with more than 100 games played and 1,000 points scored. I was named All-Conference Second Team as a sophomore, earned a Conference Player of the Week award, and led the league in free throw percentage. My career high was 43 points in a double overtime win, where I hit the tying shot at the end of regulation and the game winner with one second left. As a point guard I led my team in assists/steals in multiple seasons and shot 90 percent from the free throw line. I also earned NABC Honors Court recognition for academics. I was not the most athletic player but I found ways to impact the game/make my teammates better. I saw my consistency in the gym pay off, when other maybe didn't have to work as hard, I was able to find a way on the court and stay there.

Every session has a plan before we walk into the gym, and every drill in that plan has a purpose I can explain in one sentence. If I can't tell you why we're doing something, we don't do it. A typical hour looks like this. We start with a movement warmup that will prepare/teach the athlete to move better in future workouts/games. Main skill block, examples shooting, finishing, or creating off the dribble, ball screen scoring, ANY BASKETBALL SKILL. We build the movement first, then add speed, then add decisions. From there everything goes game-like: game spots, game speed, and a read attached to every skill, meaning when to use it and what to look for. Basketball is a decision making game, and training that ignores decisions doesn't transfer. Drills will be built so that they can progress and continue to challenge/build the skill. Players will be able to work on skills in ways that encourage progress/motivate the athlete to push themselves.
