More About Coach Al
I have been coaching Basketball at Gateway High School since 2017. I have coached boys & girls at the High School level and the middle school level. I typically train ages 8-17 but can also train adults that's interested in getting better. Industry certifications include Accredited Interscholastic Coach, NFHS Coach Level 2 National Certification, and CPR certification.
I played organized basketball from age 8-17 in New York City. I grew up playing in various tournaments including, CYO, Impact, and the Kenny Anderson tournament to name a few. In my junior year of high school, my team went on to win a PSAL district championship.
I break down training youth players into three levels. As they perfect each level, they can advance to the next level where I will teach more skills & concepts. When working with a new player, I always start with level one, no matter the age. Level one consists of shooting form, footwork, layups, ball handling, defensive technique, etc. A player who is 8 years old might stay at level 1 for a few years, whereas an older player who is 13 might stay a level one for a few weeks. Level two consists of more advanced concepts from level one as well as passing, cuts, and screens. Level three consists of more advanced concepts from level two as well as rebounding, post moves, and defensive rotations.
