More About Coach Allyson

I have been a running coach since 2007 and a NASM certified personal trainer since 2008. I specialize in endurance running coaching and have coached literally hundreds of people across the finish line of 10 mile, half marathon and full marathon races. I love working with athletes of all levels. That said, helping newer or returning athletes gain confidence and ability is definitely one of my strengths.

Additionally, I have a strong education and work history with runners coming back from injuries. I can get you back to running healthy and happy

Completed 20 half marathons, 6 full marathons and 1 ultra-marathon. Consist top 15% finisher of all female participants. Trained myself so I could complete the Chicago Marathon 2 months after orthopedic surgery from car accident.

I really hate laying out a "typical" workout in that I strive to customize each client's plan. I focus on where s/he is presently and how we can get him or her to his or her goal. Everyone is an individual and I plan accordingly.

I was not a runner until I started working with Ally. She's been a great mentor and kept me motivated to continue training in order to meet my goals. I love working with her and I've learned to enjoy running in a very short time.

Allyson is an amazing coach!! She is teaching me the importance of strength training which will make me a better runner!! Allyson is giving me the courage to go after my goals and succeed with them!!

Ally is a coach full of enthusiasm and vigor who's positive attitude is both motivating and infectious! Her clear and insightful guidance in running training has helped me meet or exceed my goals in half- and full marathons over the past six years. Furthermore, she taught me the very important lesson of how to keep my head up when things aren't going according to plan, and to modify myself physically and mentally to make the best possible experience of any competition or training run. She is truly an inspiration to the many people she has touched through coaching and personal training throughout the years; I consider myself lucky to be one of them
I'm a runner. That's what I do. I run. And I used to get injured. A lot. Strength training, core exercises, cross training, these were all things I knew I should do, but I didn't really know how (and wasn't really interested in finding out). Then I met Ally. She has helped me learn to be so much smarter about my training, and in the process she has made me not only a faster runner, but a stronger athlete. Simple resistance band exercises to strengthen my hip and prevent pain in the late miles of a race? Done. Bike ride through a forest preserve to enjoy the fall colors? Let's go. Core work on a playground swing? Sign me up! Whatever your goals--general fitness, endurance training, weight loss, all of the above--Ally knows how to get you there. And you'll have a lot of fun along the way.
The biggest danger I have working with Ally is that I forget that I’m working! She is such a fun, enthusiastic person, that it’s contagious. She listens carefully to what my journey has been and what my goals are so she can help me achieve them. She is so supportive of where I am at this particular moment in time. She doesn’t hold me to some artificial benchmark, she is there to help me achieve the goals I want. Working with Ally is one of the few times when it’s all about me! Only she makes me a better me.
Allyson has that unique gift as a trainer: the ability to simultaneously push AND encourage her clients. Her own experience with weight loss gives her a unique and empathetic perspective on many of the challenges her clients face. Meanwhile, her sunny disposition, sheer enthusiasm and love of fitness will pull you through even the toughest workout. (Whether you want to or not.) She blends education into everything she does, explaining not just how to do an exercise or a workout, but why it's important. Most of all, she's a relentless supporter who meets her clients on their own level _ from total newbies to seasoned veterans _ and inspires us all to become better athletes. (Or even consider ourselves one in the first place.)
I've worked with Ally in various capacities since 2010, including both large and small group trainings as well as one-on-one. What I enjoy most about training with her is her ability to be enthusiastic and encouraging while still being sincere and attentive. She won't be in your face, yelling boot-camp style, but rather will watch carefully and cheer when you are doing something right, or gently correct you if you are doing something incorrectly. Ally understands that everybody (and every body) is different and she is willing to listen to an athlete's concerns and adjust workouts and movements as necessary so that everyone gets the most possible from a session. I've worked with her to achieve both short-term and longer-term goals and in both cases she has been able to set me up for success.
