More About Coach Alex

I have coached numerous youth and high school athletes as a volunteer coach in my hometown of Philadelphia at the Ambler Olympic Club, at the Cornell University Track & Field Camp, and through private lessons. I was also a certified personal trainer for 3 years after moving to Knoxville for graduate school.

I was an NCAA Division 1 decathlete at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Cornell track and field is a perennial Ivy League champ and top 25 national track and field program. My senior year, I was voted team captain by my peers. I was a 5X All Ivy-League performer and 2X All-East performer in the Heptathlon/Decathlon. I also broke the school record during my Sophomore year (which has since been broken). Prior to Cornell, I was an All-American in high school in the Indoor Pentathlon at the 2007 Nike Indoor Nationals, was the AAU Junior Olympic champion in the Decathlon, and a 3X qualifier for the USA Jr. National meet in the Decathlon.

I have expertise in every technical area of track and field, as well as plyometrics, strength training, and conditioning. I typically encompass all of these things in my training, in order to create as well rounded an athlete as possible. A typical session would start with a functional, dynamic warm up, including track specific drills to improve running form. Then I would move on to technical training in a specific event, followed by some combination of plyometrics, intervals, hills, stairs, etc. I am also a proponent of using strength training to complement work on the track, so I would be more than willing to spend time training athletes in the weight room.
