More About Coach Alexander

I bring over 30 years of elite baseball playing and coaching experience to the field. As a former NCAA Division III collegiate athlete at the University of La Verne, I deeply understand what it takes to develop from a youth player into a high-level competitive athlete.

My coaching career spans several premier high school athletic programs, including:

Etiwanda High School

Dos Pueblos High School

High Tech High

Through these institutions, I have specialized in varsity-level player development, mechanical refinement, and athletic profiling. I hold a Master’s Degree in Coaching, which equips me with advanced knowledge in athletic sports psychology, biomechanics, and structured training progression models.

While I am highly experienced in preparing high school players for collegiate-level competition, I routinely work with all age groups from youth beginners (ages 6-12) looking to master foundational throwing, fielding, and hitting mechanics, up to elite high school varsity prospects (ages 14-18) looking to fine-tune their approach and mental game. I customize every single training block specifically to the athlete's current skill level to guarantee tangible growth and confidence.

I competed at the high school, collegiate, and highly competitive amateur levels throughout Southern California.

My specific athletic highlights and accomplishments include:

High School Varsity Success (2000–2004): I was a 3-year Varsity starter and earned All-League Shortstop honors, anchoring the middle infield and proving my ability to perform under high-stakes competitive pressure.

Collegiate Level (NCAA Division III): I moved on to compete at the collegiate level for the University of La Verne, playing both Shortstop (SS) and Second Base (2B). Playing in the highly competitive SCIAC conference sharpened my tactical understanding of infield defense, situational hitting, and elite-level training regimens.

Amateur & Pitching Experience: In addition to my middle infield career, I have extended my playing tenure as a pitcher in competitive adult amateur baseball leagues throughout Southern California. This firsthand experience on the mound allows me to comprehensively coach both sides of the ball—infield mechanics/footwork and pitching mechanics/strategy.

My multi-decade career across multiple positions enables me to translate complex, high-level playing experience into actionable, step-by-step instructions for developing athletes.

A typical session with me is highly focused, progressive, and tailored entirely to the specific biomechanics and learning style of the individual athlete. I do not believe in cookie-cutter training; I customize every drill so that the athlete finds a mechanical approach that works seamlessly for them and feels completely natural.

Here is exactly how I run a high-level, 60-minute session:

1. Dynamic Warm-Up & Functional Movement (10 Mins)
We start with a sport-specific warm-up focusing on arm care, shoulder mobility, and explosive footwork. I use this time to assess the athlete’s movement patterns and physical readiness for the day.

2. Modern Mechanical Analysis & Video Review (15 Mins)
We dive straight into progressive skill work (hitting, infield footwork, or pitching mechanics). I utilize cutting-edge training ideas that mimic the highest levels of collegiate and professional play. I integrate real-time video analysis on the field, showing the athlete frame-by-frame what their body is doing. Seeing the data and film visually accelerates their learning curve dramatically.

3. High-Rep, Purposeful Drills (25 Mins)
This is a no-nonsense, hands-on training block. I utilize physical modeling—actively demonstrating and breaking down the movements myself so the athlete can see the exact mechanics in real-time. We run through targeted progression drills (such as situational fielding patterns, approach-based batting tee work, or mechanical pitching constraints) designed to build bulletproof muscle memory.

4. Competition-Simulated Finish & Homework (10 Mins)
We close out the session by ramping up the intensity to mimic game-like pressure. We finish with a concrete recap of what went well, what felt comfortable, and I provide 1 or 2 specific focal points or "homework drills" they can practice at home before our next session to ensure continuous development.
