More About Coach Abel
I’m currently an overseas Professional Basketball player in the PBA(Philippine Basketball Assocation). I earned my BS in Accounting and MBA both at John Brown University during my playing years in college from 2008-2013. I’ve coached all different ages from youth levels, high school levels, collegiate, and all the way up to professional overseas levels.
As NAIA D1 alum from John brown University, I’ve coached ages 5-18 in association with the JBU Men’s Basketball Summer Camps. I’ve also trained, 5-10 year olds, Middle school athletes entering high school, and freshmen all the way into Senior year athletes trying to go on to play collegiate basketball. I usually work with 15-18 years old but I also can work with as early as 12 years old.
No matter what skill level, it’s important for me that my client not only improves his or her basketball skills, but also takes home life skills and success principles in life after working with me.
As a current pro basketball player and as of right now, I do not hold any industry certifications.
2004-2008 4- year letterman and starter at Fort Bend Dulles High school in 23-5A.
2008 State finalist in 2008 Texas 5A Finals
2008 Texas High school coaches association THSCA All-Star game
2008-2013 4 year starter at NAIA D1 John Brown University (Arkansas)
2009 Freshman of the Year Sooner Athletic Conference(SAC)
2010 SAC 3rd Team All Conference
2011 Injury Redshirt Year
2012 SAC Honourable Mention All Conference
2013 SAC 2nd Team All-Conference
2013 NAIA D1 All-American Honourable Mention
2015-current Philippine Basketballs association (PBA) Alaska Aces 4 year player
First half of a training session will work on fundamental drills, move/Shot breakdown. Second half of a training session will work on using it in game like situations.
Drills are broken down depending what skill I’m working on with the player.
One session would be focused on specific skill desired to improve weaknesses
Shooting, one on one moves, finished around the basket, etc.
If it’s a shooting sesh,
First half would BEEF form shooting and drills to synchronise bottom half of bottom to go up with top and finishing with follow through.
Second half would be like drills incorporating moving and catching and shooting as well as off the dribble shooting. (Star drill, elbow series, cut off curl, back screen& seperate , from down screen, flares, and dribble pull up series)
Whatever we work on in first half session fundamentally, would be practiced in game speed and game like shots in second half of session.
I like to mix in goal oriented motivation to athletes to keep the focused engaged. I.e make 2 in a row to move on, make a total 5, etc..)

Client Reviews
Kirk (CoachUp client)
Just moved to the area from out of state and searched and found My CoachUp for my daughter who currently plays Div2 College Basketball! I was a little hesitant at first cuz I was not familiar with Coach Abel. But I was able to communicate with him threw the website where I was able to better understand what he could provide as far as extra training. She has attended at least 3 of his sessions and has totally been pressed with the training that she has been provided. Although her window of training with Coach Abel will be short, I would/will recommend him to everyone I know. Also he has a nice facility to train. Glad we made the connection!
Former Head Coach at John Brown University (Testimonial)
Abel has always been an incredible student of the game and a flat out winner. He has overachieved at every level he has played out and has learned the art of maximizing his talents and abilities. I have no doubt that as a teacher and coach he will not only make you better, but also you will have a blast during the process! He is an excellent communicator and leader and has made every organization he has been a part of better! He will make you better too! - Clark Sheehy, Active Head Coach of Southwestern Baptist University
