More About Coach Zach

I coach all age groups of kids, from beginners to people hitting the highest levels. There are always things to improve on! Much of my direct coaching experience comes from working with younger kids during the time I was playing; DC Stoddert and Bethesda Soccer Club summer camps. The multitude of coaches and coaching styles I have seen over my years of playing are very important resources for me. Being able to articulate and demonstrate key factors that help kids to develop into well rounded players are skills I have naturally had and continue to refine.

I've been playing soccer since I was around 5 years old and have always loved the game. I started all four years at Colgate University, NCAA Div 1, as a center-back; I was captain my junior and senior seasons. I Earned Patriot League Defender of the Year my senior year (2016), Patriot League First-Team honors (2015-16), and NCSAA Second-Team All-Northeast Region (2016). I went on to play briefly for Nybro IF, Division 3 Sweden, for a season. I grew up in Washington DC and played for DC Stoddert and later Bethesda Soccer Club in high school. I attended Maret School from 7th -12th grade.

My typical session would focus on the skills which I think that are most important for soccer players to succeed at any level of soccer. This begins with very proficient foundational skills including: strong tight dribbling/ball control, accurate passing ability, and quick effective decision making. This will be done through combination of a wide range of quick high intensity drills, along with a package of repetitive drills to make certain details subconscious. I hope to minimize cone use because I find it many time unnecessary. Defending is my specialty for those who wish to develop in defensive positions; however, every player needs to be able to defend. The combination of technical and tactical are the goals of mine; to develop well rounded players.

Client Reviews

Great energy and great understanding of what my 10 yr old needs to focus on

Coach Zach was terrific with my son who seemed to hang on his every word. It probably helps that Zach is a phenomenal player in his own right. The various drills Zach had my son do were both challenging and instructive. My son learned a lot from that first session alone. Zach also made it fun which helped to keep things loose and really put a smile on my son's face. We'll definitely work with Zach again!
