More About Coach Zachary
I have been a part of coaching lacrosse for over ten years in the greater Houston area! I’ve instructed personal lessons for over five years with a specialty in offensive mechanics. During my years on the sideline I’ve been a youth head coach with the Katy Cavaliers as well as a high school varsity head coach with the 7 Lakes Lacrosse Club. Since 2016 I have been the varsity men’s head coach at The Emery Weiner School and in 2022 I added women’s varsity lacrosse to the mix! I love both games and can always be found with a lacrosse stick in hand!
In high school I was a 4 year letter-man and was recognized as an all state lacrosse player. I played lacrosse at Sam Houston State where I was a 3x MCLA All American. An ankle injury and surgery complication brought my hopes of a potential professional career to an end.
Athletes can expect to be put through a series of different lacrosse specific skills, movements, and drills at different tempos. High tempo and high repetition drills will lead to quicker muscle memory acquisition helping improve skills at an accelerated rate. I do my best to give consistent and thoughtful feedback. We will begin or session with a short total body warm-up after a summary of any nagging injuries. We will then warm our stick skills up with a variety of different passing drills including 1 on 1 passing, wall ball, bounce back passing, and more. After our stick skills are dialed in we transition into a shooting exercise to activate our more explosive muscles and soft tissue. Now onto the “meat and potatoes” as we go into our skill specific training; split dodges to shooting on the run, time and room shots, catching the ball and finishing on the crease. We finish up our session with a fun and rewarding drill; typically a skill that hasn't been highlighted throughout the session or a skill the athlete wants to learn or practice!
