More About Coach William
“To begin I would like you to know how much I love the sport of basketball. “I REALLY REALLY LOVE BASKETBALL!!!” I’ve played at the college level and coached/mentored at levels ranging from elementary-professional.
I played the point guard position in college. I ranked in the top 10 in assists for the Commonwealth Coast Conference all 4 years and top 10 in assist nationwide my freshman year. This was the case for steals also. Being that my job was to distribute and get fellow teammates involved in the game, I did that with pride. However when it came time for me to score, I did a lot of that on the block. My repertoire consisted of back to the basket moves, face up moves and a few step through moves. Being that said I have a skill set that can help any and all players.
I am looking forward to working with players of all levels. I need dedicated individuals ready to match my intensity during the sessions. I focus on stretching, muscle memory, foot work, conditioning, quickness, shooting drills, dribbling drills and most of all, developing a thick skin to adversity.
If you feel that you are capable of giving every drill your 100% effort and getting better every day, please feel free to contact me as I am ready to work with those individuals ready for that commitment.”
Career:
1993-1997 Played for Boston English High School (Made Cities and States); named captain senior year; avg. close to a triple double
2001-2005 Played for Eastern Nazarene College; Starting Point Guard all four years. Scored 780 pts.; Assisted around 500 dimes. Upset with myself for the lack of self play. I've always put my team first and being the point made it my job to get the guys that were the scorers the ball. My goal was to get one of the guys I entered college with 1,000. Came close with 2 players. My shooter 960 and my big man roughly around 800 in two years of play due to injuries. At our senior ceremony it hurt my soul to hear how close I was myself to 1,000. All I needed was to make 1 more shot per game for my career, which would have been an easy feat being that I had the ball in my hand majority of the time. Can't go back BUT I can teach that now.
Coaching:
1997: Age 18; Coached the YMCA 15 and under traveling team to a National AAU Championship. Was approached by one of the coaches of Hofstra University at the time. He asked me my name, how old I was and then went on to say " You're gonna be great at this" and walked away.
1997-2001 Worked with guys such as Raheim Lamb, Will Blalock, Dwayne Cox to name a few. All went D-1.
After college I looked to coach the neighborhood kids with hopes of maybe coaching High school ball. So I began a 15 and under of my own. Mainly for summer leagues. I had the same team for 3 years. Each year we made the chamionship rounds; winning 2 out of the 3 years. My biggest accomplishment in this area would be that all except for 1 went on to college. The final 2 players from that team are graduating high school this year.
2013 Coached McKinley Middle School basketball team.
