More About Coach Wes

I have over seven years experience coaching high school wrestling at a State level. Three years were at Tampa Preparatory School, where I was able to help bring multiple wrestlers to State medals. Three years were at Huntington Beach High School, where I helped to turn around an almost non existent wrestling program and brought several wrestlers to CIF, Masters, and State. I have also started a girls wrestling program and brought two girls to Masters and one to State. I have over five years experience coaching kids, ages 4 through 12, and adults in wrestling and Jiu Jitsu and coaching no-gi Jiu Jitsu for Activision-Blizzard. I have also worked with several strength and conditioning coaches and nutritionists at East Coast West Coast Strength and Conditioning and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rays. I also spent a small amount of time with the Boston University Wrestling program and several other college and national teams.

I started wrestling when I was 11 with much success all the way through high school. I earned two State medals for placing and then a State Championship all at the 160 pound weight class. I have multiple gold medals at Durant, Brandon, and Gulf tournaments, as well as gold medals at Jesuit and Berkeley tournaments. My high school career record was 126 and 22. I wrestled for Andy Bricker who wrestled under Cary Kolat and then continued on to coach under Bricker. I also have competed in Jiu Jitsu for five years where I have multiple medals at Pan-Ams, several gold medals for Jiu Jitsu World League and Abu Dhabi championships, a gold medal for BJJ breakdown, and gold medal for jiujitsu.net, and many other first place finishes in my weight class and first place absolute finishes at other tournaments and invitationals.

The session will always be tailored and customized to the level of the client, and what the client is hoping to achieve out of private sessions. This often depends on age, experience, and season, as clients will be looking for different things in or out of the typical Winter high school wrestling season. A typical session usually runs around an hour or a little bit longer. I prefer to stay productive and warm up through wrestling-specific body motion and technical and flow drilling. Live wrestling or high-intensity drilling is usually a part of each session, but most of the time will be spent on technique, and building a wrestler's specific style and mat mentality. Depending on what the client is looking for, we can also add in a workout or some cardio as well. I have worked with and have access to several professional nutritionists who work with the World's Strongest Man and other strongmen as well as with professional boxers in managing weight, so I can also set time to figure out a nutrition plan for the client if that's wanted as well.

Client Reviews

Coach Wes is excellent. Everything regarding the first session with my son (H.S. sophomore), was impressive. Coach Wes is highly competent, capable, and skillful. Most importantly, communication is key, and the rapport between coach and my son was immediate and effortless. We agreed that mental toughness is so important in sports and in life. Coach Wes is dedicated to teaching this most important aspect.

Can teach whatever you need with a high level of detail. I had him work with my 13 an 11 year old to develop basic skills for changing levels, hand fighting, tie-ups to a setup, working to a base, the list goes on and on. He teaches proper technique in scramble situations, how to initiate an offense and use your defense as an offense. He will drill concepts until you get it right, then do it some more. Every situation drilled has a chain wrestling element that broadens students learning and situational awareness. Practice pace with Wes is on point and moves with a purpose that keeps the student engaged. He provides mindset concepts and pre-match warm-up routines before competitions. Make him your weekly coach.

Was excellent. Very detailed and productive. Money well spent. Looking forward to a more sessions with coach Wes.

Awesome Coach and our son Jeremiah was glad that he learned different wrestling techniques during their 1-on-1 training. Looking forward for our son to have additional training with Coach Wes!
