More About Coach Walter
I have been coaching athletes for more than 10 years, all over the country. I played college baseball and some beyond college. I work with players of all ages from 5 to professional. I have been coaching since I was a teenager on multiple levels. My first major coaching experience was as a youth team coach and player development mentor at Major League Badeball's Urban Youth Academy in Los Angels, California. I coached and taught baseabll and softball fundamentals and advanced player specifics there from 2007 to 2015. Also, from 2007 to present I have coached various little league baseball teams as well as youth football, basketball, and softball. From there I am currently coaching at Discovery High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I am also coaching or helping to coach several youth teams including, ETA 17u, ETA 14u, and Reign Baseball 12u. I am an NCCPT Certified Personal Trainer. I am also CPR certified and I love what I do.
I played high school baseball for the number 1 team in the nation at the time, winning several state championships. I played college baseball at three different institutions. I played first at Los Angeles City College in Los Angels California during the 2009 season where I pitched and played the outfield. From there I played at Winston Salem State University in Winston Salem, NC in 2011. There I played the outfield. We were fortunate to win a conference championship and make the NCAA tournament as the program returned to competition for the first time in 37 years. I finished my college career at Albany State University in Albany, GA during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. There I played outfield and pitched, posting a .388 batting average and a 3.31 ERA in 71 innings. From there I played professionally in the California Winter League in Palm Springs, CA in Januaryof 2014. There I pitched only and posted a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings with no walks. I was subsequently invited to the Kansas City Royals in June of that same year. I then played in the Socal scout league with the Twins in 2014 and 2015.
Typically I get a break down all of the players ideas, wants, and needs for their game. Then we talk philosophy in order to get a good feel for the players mentality. I then like to watch the athlete(s) perform various actions related to their sport and assess their specific skill level. Next we get into a plan of action for developing skills and strengths. Once we develop that plan we implement a course of action that will lead to optimal success both on and off the field. I believe success on the field begins with the things you do off the the field. I usually give home work which consists of little things to do or think about between sessions.
