More About Coach Tyrone

I’ve been fortunate to coach across the full spectrum of the game — from U6 youth teams just learning their first touches all the way to athletes competing at the Division I collegiate level. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Coach at the University of New Haven, a Division I institution, where I work with high-level players striving to maximize their potential both on and off the field.

Over the years, I’ve worked with every age group and don’t hold a preference for one over another — I enjoy coaching anyone who brings a hardworking mentality and a willingness to be coachable. That passion for growth and commitment is what I value most, regardless of age or skill level.

I’ve also had the pleasure of coaching players who’ve gone on to achieve success at the professional level, including my brother Jared Malango, who plays in Spain’s 3RREF, as well as the young Italian phenomenon Luca Koleosho, currently with the U-21 Italian National Team and Espanyol’s first team in La Liga.

I am also USSF Licensed, which provides me with a strong foundation in methodology, player development, and structured training environments. Whether working with young players discovering their love for the game or elite athletes sharpening their competitive edge, I bring energy, professionalism, and a genuine love for helping players reach their next level.

My playing career has taken me from the junior college level all the way through NCAA Division II, where I had the privilege of competing and growing at every step of the journey. Along the way, I earned opportunities to trial professionally with several clubs in Spain, experiences that deepened both my passion and understanding of the game at the highest level.

I’ve been part of programs where we completely changed the course of a team’s history. At the College of Mount Saint Vincent, I helped lead the Dolphins to their first and only Skyline Conference Championship in 2021 — a milestone achievement in school history. Later at the University of New Haven, I was part of a rebuilding effort that took the program from a 1-win season to 6-7-2, and then, as a graduate assistant involved in trainings, helped push the team to a 12-4-2 record and a Conference Championship final in 2024.

Most recently, I had the honor of captaining New Haven United to a 2025 NPSL Championship in our inaugural season, setting the tone for the club’s culture of excellence right from day one.

These experiences — across JuCo, Division II, professional trials, and championship-winning teams — have not only shaped me as a player but also as a leader who understands what it takes to turn struggling programs into competitive, winning teams.

Every session is built around the player. If an athlete already knows what they want to focus on, we tailor the training directly to those goals. If not, after an initial evaluation session, I provide feedback on strengths and areas of improvement, then create a structured plan designed to help the player grow in the most impactful way possible.

Planned sessions can vary depending on the player’s needs — whether it’s finishing, technical skills, fitness, or position-specific work. Each session is a focused, 1-hour block of intense training, designed to replicate game-like demands while sharpening technique and decision-making.

I also offer off-field sessions that include film review. Together, we’ll go over full matches or highlight clips to break down what was done well, as well as identify areas that need improvement. This allows players to see the game from a new perspective and apply those insights directly back into training and competition.

The goal of every session is simple: to push players to the next level through intentional, detailed, and personalized coaching.
