More About Coach Turner

Having played baseball since I was old enough to walk, I have a vast knowledge over pretty much all aspects of the game. When I was 5, I started playing organized baseball and continued to play until I graduated from UC Santa Cruz. While at UCSC, I played on the club team all four years, getting elected Coach/Manager my last two seasons. Besides coaching at UCSC, I have been the head baseball instructor for the 5-9 year olds at Sportstime Baseball camps in Mill Valley. My 6 years of coaching at these camps has helped me ascertain particular ways of instruction that help the kids vastly improve while also having fun. I instruct all aspects of baseball, but I like to find the person's weakest area and focus on that the most. The key to making a fun experience is to switch up the activities relatively quick so that the person does not get bored by doing the same thing over and over.

I am currently the Baseball Technical Adviser for the Netflix TV show 13 Reasons Why. This position entails teaching the actors good form and technique so that they not only look like they know what they are doing, but can actually do it and avoid injury.

While coaching and playing my senior year at Santa Cruz, we were able to push our way into the top 20 ranked teams in the nation, reaching the rank of #18. During that same year, we placed second in a wood bat tournament that hosted 18 teams from around the country.

If possible, it is suggested that the player arrives a few minutes early and warms up so that we can jump right in and start running drills right away. This is optional, but would allow for me to use those few minutes that would be warming up to provide extra skill training. Sessions will be tailored to the specified areas of interest but usually the first lesson is used to allow me to evaluate all aspects of a players skill. This will allow to me to best design a session for what I see needs improvement.
