More About Coach Trevor
I have been playing lacrosse for 5 years, and I have been coaching on and off for the last 3. I incorporate the drills that I have been given while playing for both Esperanza High school and for Cal State Fullerton.
I can work with kids of all ages and levels, but my specialty is in goalie training. I was the starting goalie in college, and I learned quickly from my own personal experience, the experience of my predicessor goalie, from my coaches, and from all the drills and exercises that I found and used on the internet.
For specialized training for goalies we will do work on and off the field. training will consist of explosive work outs, and dynamic work outs to increase reaction time and overall quickness in goal. Wall work will be used to increase his or her reaction time, as well as other exercises.
My overall goal is to teach the kids how to play the sport and have the most fun possible with their new found skills, and hopefully walk away with a respect for the game.
While playing at Esperanza High School I was awarded the Iron man Award my senior year for dedication to the team and for my willingness to help my team achieve our goals whatever the cost to myself personally.
My freshman year at Cal State Fullerton I was named the MVP in our league along with our star attack man Chris Cole.
I will hold my players to the same level that I held myself to, to dedicate myself to the sport, to play for me and for my friends around me.
To see what my player has already I will first start my testing their throwing skills by simply throwing with them, seeing what needs work. (throwing over the shoulder, right hand vs left hand, craddling, etc.), next we will move on to shooting (whether this is for a goalie or for a field player) to see how he or she steps to the ball, where they position themselves in the cage, movements before and after the ball, flinching, etc.
From this I will be able to judge what I want to work with him or her most, and from there I will develop a plan of attack around him or her. Wall work may be necessary, stepping drills, reflex drills, or even sprints if they are not prepared for the physical exertion of a full game. All of these things will be taken into account when preparing your lacrosse player to enjoy this fast paced and exciting sport.
