More About Coach Coach Tony

I've been a Coach/Trainer of Professional, Amateur and Novice Athletes since 1992, Boxing, Baseball, Football, Hockey. I was the Head Fitness Instructor @ "Rose Shores Fitness & Racquet Club" in Roseville Michigan from 1991 to 1994, I worked side by side with Don King { NOT THE BOXING PROMOTER } who mentored and molded me, he was then the General Manager of that club. I was at that time ACE certified. The age groups I have trained has varied from 16 to 70. I've also worked for "World Gym" On Groesbeck in Clinton Township, Michigan from 1994 to 1996 as a Fitness floor manager overseeing other trainers working with club members. I've trained Boxers, Baseball and Hockey players for more than 25 years to date, Professional, Amateur and Minor Leagues to date...

My personal accomplishments athletically were 2 no hitters as a Baseball player, I reached high as sanction colt and was a 3 time All-star voted amongst all managers and coaches in the league. My LOVE for Boxing came at an early age of 10, when then my father and I would watch old fights in the basement of our home, fights like Sandy Sadler Vs. Willie Pep, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Ezzard Charles, Henry Armstrong...all the way up to current fighters of today !! I have many favorite fighters that I have admired and respected their "body of work" over the years of studying styles and techniques to understand how much goes in to becoming superior athletes...Please don't misunderstand me, I Love and I'm very passionate about helping to teach beginners wanting to learn the fundamentals and exercise not only their bodies, but their minds too! I've been on HBO, SHOWTIME, Friday Night Fights on ESPN as well with my Professional Fighters...BOXING The Greatest Sport In The World !!

My Passion, Focus, Dedication & Determination is my Main Goal. Starting out would be to make sure we are "on the same page" understanding my clients goals and expectations, I generally like to begin with a dynamic warm up, followed by skill instruction. I set a goal with the student and we will focus on 1 or 2 things per session. I do a lot of demonstrations and fundamental work to ensure the skill is properly achieved. I also use a lot of key word phrases and sequences to help the student remember the skill set, then, examine how much experience he or she might have and then start from there, I like to start up at a pace that he or she is comfortable with and then progress from there. I must say that's crucial when building a strong and respectful relationship with my clients. Cardiovascular training generally is what I start with, then strength and conditioning and then keep the pace and progression moving forward until he or she reaches their personal goals ! Remember this, Hold on to this,This is the only perfection there is, The perfection of helping others. This is the only thing we can do that has any lasting meaning. This is why we're here, the good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything ! It’s your mind you have to convince ! PLEASE keep in mind when purchasing 3, 5 or 10 session package(s) on your credit or debit card, that the money paid to me is drawn 1 session at a time via EFT when that session is marked complete, the remaining sessions are "locked-in" until the package(s) are completely finished...Thank You !

Client Reviews

Coach Tony was very helpful in our first session. He allowed me to get to know him right away and took time to learn about me as well. He’s very mindful and attentive. After making sure to set me up with the right gear moving forward, we got right into it. He was able to teach me about footwork and correct my stance. He taught me how to better defend myself while throwing punches and keep my balance in combat. We went over time and I learned more than I expected to in our first session including breathing techniques, terminology and punch combinations. I’m a beginner and I have a lot to learn but I feel very confident that working with him, I will learn what there is to know about boxing. I look forward to future sessions

Great session

I can't say enough good things! My first session was awesome. Tony is a great coach and I look forward to training with him again.

I would recommend coach Tony, I had expectations coming in and he did not let me down. Coming from a wrestling and sports background, you understand good coaching and people who cam adapt to your learning style. He pays attention to that.

Coach Tony Pops has really changed the way I approach training (whether it be boxing or general fitness). I began my current round of training sessions (50 so far) and the progress I have made is amazing. From losing weight, tightening my core, and learning about the science of boxing, it is amazing how much can be achieved in such little time. While there must be dedication and determination from the boxer, it is coach Pops who continues to not only motivate me in the ring but outside as well. This leads to more productive sessions as you begin to feel more confident in all aspects of life. Each session starts off the same, three rounds of shadow boxing + three rounds of heavy bag. In addition to this warm up, we began with 6 rounds (two rounds of 3) of pad work and punch shield but have advanced to 12 rounds. As Pops reiterates time and time again, the TEACHING lessons now have become TRAINING sessions. After you work with Tony to hone your boxing skills, you will also finish up each session with some core (ab) work and cardio (spints and sparring). I have trained with at least 5-6 trainers in my life (both private and through a large gym) and none compare to Tony. He doesnt rush the session, in fact finishing sometimes 15-20 minutes afterwards to make sure that the combinations we learned stick for the next session. Another thing that makes Tony a great trainer compared to those in my past is his constant communication with me. From texting or calling the night before to confirm an appointment to texting on the weekend to see if I am icing my hands and eating healthy, these little texts are important because it shows that Tony not only cares about your training but also about your mental and physical well being. Coach Tony doesnt just teach you self defense but he always stresses that each session provides you training for the "war of life." I never felt pressured by Pops if I wasn't able to learn a combination the first few times of practice. While being firm but fair, Coach Tony is super relaxed, patient, and understanding. Instead of expressing frustration, Coach Tony will show you respect and patience and slowly work with you until you have the punches down pat. This type of strict yet relaxed demeanor leads to a more productive session, even if I am off my game that specific day. I have (and will continue to) wholeheartedly recommended Coach Pops to my friends and coworkers and each time they thank ME for putting them in touch with a great reliable coach. I purchased 10 sessions when I first started and after the fifth session, i signed up for an additional 40 immediately. Moving forward I know that whether in the ring or in life, Coach Tony has my back and will always continue to support my fitness and life endeavors. I began my lessons with Pops as my trainer first and foremost, but after 40 sessions and months of hard work, I not only consider Pops as my coach and mentor, but most importantly one of my good friends.

After extensive search for a boxing trainer to help me lose weight and get back into boxing, I have found Coach Pops. He is a true profession and a master of his craft. He is experienced enough to know when to challenge you and when to let you catch a breath. Your training will truly be customized to your goals and skill level. There is no "drill seargant" mentality and a very comfortable atmosphere to learn the sport of boxing from the best. Not to mention, for this price you are paying a fraction of what other coaches with half the knowledge charge. If you are looking to get in shape, learn/improve boxing skill, and have fun-look no further and book your first session

Great Coach. Trains fighters at all levels. Really pushes to get the best out of you

I’d definitely recommend Coach Tony to anyone looking for a boxing instructor. In the very short amount of time I’ve trained with him, he’s been bringing me through the basic fundamentals of boxing quickly. He’s very observant in making sure your form is correct and offers helpful advice to increase the power and accuracy of your shots, as well as overall proper body form for fighting. When it comes to shot practice with the pads, he says he’s “firm but fair” when it comes to telling you whether you’re doing everything correctly or not, but each time there’s improvement and he certainly is fair with his response. Each session for myself usually include warm ups, strike bag, double end bag, heavy bag, and pad work in two 3 minute rounds or three 2 minute rounds each. After that there’s usually some ab work at the end. If you work with Coach Tony, you're guaranteed to feel like you've had a workout by the end and expect to have gained more practice with boxing fundamentals.

I've trained Professional Athletes from The Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple A Baseball Team and after their training with me and they returned to their Team & Season, I would get Letters of Appreciation stating how I helped them take their body's physical shape and conditioning to another level was such an accomplishment for me it allowed me to move further in my career as a Coach and motivated me to learn more about the Human anatomy and study the nutrition aspect as well to help and advise people to function & compete at their Highest Potential !! Thank you, Coach Tony
