More About Coach Tim

I have no formal experience coaching or training athletes. However, I have had the luxury of being coached and trained by absolutely amazing coaches and I would like to take what I have learned and pass it on to my future students.

I was fortunate enough to make the Junior Varsity basketball team at Mount St. Joseph High School. While this may not seem like a huge accomplishment, those who know the basketball program at Mount St. Joseph realize how difficult it is to make the varsity team. After graduating from high school, I was fortunate enough to play on the Division III Stevenson University men's basketball team. While I did not get a lot of playing time, I learned so much about the importance of team chemistry as well as the importance of determination and hard work from my coaches.

A typical session with me would entail a lot of shooting. While some coaches preach defense, I still believe the most important aspect to basketball is scoring. While I will work on shooting, I will focus on SMART SHOOTING. Watching high school, college, and the NBA, I see so many instances where players are shooting the worse shot possible. For example, I have and always will dread when my teammates (and future students) shoot the "long two pointer" - it is the worse shot in basketball. I would much rather you drive to the basket, create contact, pass the ball for a better shot, or shoot a three pointer. Shooting a contested long two pointer is very difficult.

I also would focus on free throw shooting. In college, one of the assistant coaches taught me a good trick when it comes to free throws. When the referee throws you the ball, shoot it as if it was a jump shot. It has helped me so much. Often, I would receive the ball and dribble it and take my time and OVER THINK the situation. Now, I don't hesitate and I shoot it as if it's live game action and it's worth two points.

Besides shooting, I would also work on other basics, including passing, dribbling, and defense.

Client Reviews

I think Coach Tim did a great job teaching my daughter exactly the skills that she needs to improve her game. Unfortunately, the commute to the facility was a bit far.
