More About Coach Thomas
I currently work in analytics and scouting with the Baltimore Orioles. Prior to that, I was an assistant coach at Georgetown University. I attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT where I played shortstop and won a National Championship in my Senior Season. I was then drafted in the 37th round by the Red Sox organization where I played for two seasons. I also played a professional season abroad in Italy, before finishing up my career with the Baltimore Orioles organization.
I have been privileged to have worked with numerous top level pro hitting coaches throughout my career, and have been introduced to numerous drills and routines including focusing on the mental approach to hitting and how to give yourself the best chance when in the batters box.
-Currently Advanced Analytics Scout w/ Baltimore Orioles.
-Previous Assistant Coach with Georgetown University
-Drafted by the Boston Redsox in the 37th round of the MLB draft.(2008).
-NCAA D3 National Champions(Trinity College), best winning percentage in NCAA History (45-1).(2008).
-1st team all New England Shortstop, 1st team all NESCAC Shortstop.(2007).
-2nd team all NESCAC Shortstop.( 2006).
-Louisville Slugger Pre-season High School All American.( 2004).
-.291 AVG w/ Boston Red Sox single A (Lowell/Greenville) (2009)
-.349 AVG Reggio Emilia, Italy (2011)
-Focus on creating an individual routine. (every hitter is different). Introduce a number of drills, and allow the hitter to decide what works for him. You then have "your routine", which allows you to have a plan in the cage, rather than just getting in there and "taking swings".
-I have a couple drills that focus on the use of a donut weight, which build up the forearm (muscles used when swinging), that if adhered to, I guarantee will add noticeable power and hand-speed in 3-4 weeks.
-I am a big fan of players seeing themselves on camera, and we will review video and break down a player's swing and isolate potential areas we can improve upon.
-Hitting is all about repetition and creating muscle memory in the batting cage, so that when the time comes to step into the batter's box you can trust your preparation.
-In addition to offering hitting lessons, I offer defensive work as well. I have always been an elite fielder and set Shortstop fielding percentage records at Trinity, as well as had fielding percentages of .963, .955, .981 from my senior year through my 2 seasons with the Red Sox. While I predominately played infield professionally, I did spend some time playing the outfield. I also coach the Georgetown outfielders, and use a number of drills to improve hands, quickness and footwork.

Our session with Thomas was outstanding and produced immediate results. Having access to a former professional player who is a current Division I coach are extreme strong points. I strongly recommend Thomas' services for any age and level baseball player. I look forward to a continued longstanding relationship with Thomas as my son progresses in the sport.

Thomas, I posted a great message on the CoachUp board about the immediate results we saw from DJ today. He is the lead-off batter for the team and was very nervous about "disappointing Coach Thomas" on his first at-bat and then settled in. You made a heck of an impression! He hit the ball harder in game two than he ever has in a travel game and was still thinking how Coach Thomas would not have liked how he pulled a hard line drive to deep left field that was caught by an outfielder that was either out of position or playing him perfectly (smile)! I am still shocked he caught that ball and/or that he was evern there! Good news is that based on his swing, they played the little guy deep each at-bat. After his initial strike out, he walked once and/or hit the ball every time over both games--this is after striking out several times last weekend. You have helped him physically with his hitting and psychologically in that he is a league age 11 player playing on a league age 12 team who is still getting used to not being the 'big man on campus' on his respective team. Your session has narrowed his physical and emotional gaps he felt. Regards, Dwayne
