More About Coach Tarnell

Currently, I am a men's basketball assistant coach with Elgin Community College. I have been a men's basketball assistant at Elgin Community College for the past 5 seasons. I will be heading into my 6th year of coaching college basketball in 2016-2017.

In addition to working with the college, I am a head coach and trainer with an AAU program named Epic. I work with age groups 9U-17U.

I also have weight training/skill development plans for basketball and football players.....

I also have the ability to record and produce highlight videos of very high quality....

Here are some examples....

I never made it to the professional level or a high collegiate level. I came down to try playing junior college basketball at Elgin Community College. After my career at Elgin was over I didn't attempt to play at a higher level though my ability allowed it my athletic clock had ran out.....But I always wanted to get into coaching. I took on a volunteer role for Elgin Community College. After that, I was hired on staff. I am now the lead recruiter and longest tenured assistant coach at Elgin.

A session with me will be very demanding. I am not a screamer or yeller but my athletes do get results and their skills do evolve. I will put kids thru the necessary training so that they can perform at whatever level they wish to reach.

The first thing always is a little assessment, you have to know where guys are before you throw the book at them. In order for a skill to grow you must first know what needs to be sharpened (skill wise).

I have helped numerous players sharpen their skills and move on to the d2/naia level..... (Recently Elgin Community where I am a assistant men's coach sent a kid to mizzou (division 1)

I also have the ability to record and produce highlight videos of very high quality....

I can also put together lifting sessions. At Elgin Community College I also serve as the men's basketball strength and conditioning coach as well as assistant coach.

My son had his first session with Coach Tarnell & he is very happy. We have booked more sessions with Coach Tarnell.

Coach Tarnell is great. He is able to see the small mistakes my son is making with his skills and correct them so we see results right away. He uses humor and a very calm delivery to get his message across that makes my son very comfortable

After a difficult situation at the high school, I was seeking some basketball training for my son. Coach Tarnell was the answer to our prayers. My son is back excited about basketball and willing to but the work in again. Coach Tarnell made him feel good about himself again. His drills showed my son that he needed to work but also that he is a good player.

I booked a session for my 12 year old son to help him get ready for his school tryouts. He really enjoyed it and learned a lot. He said Coach Tarnell knows a lot of drills, is very experienced, and was positive and fun. My husband, who's an avid basketball player, watched the coaching session and was also impressed. We're signing up for more sessions with Coach Tarnell!

It took us a few tries to lock in a start time and location, but once we did Tarnell worked the boys exactly how we asked. Good communicator. Knows how to connect with the kids (13 year old). Stayed a little extra time to make sure they understood the expectations and made some progress on the first session.

Coach Tarnell is teaching skills that I are challenging my daughter and making her think. He has a way to keep her engaged which I know is challenge for any 9 year old going through training. Look forward to continuing coaching with him.
