More About Coach Steven
I have 58 years experience as a player, coach and club administrator. I have also been an evaluator for the VA ODP program. I have coached primarily in the NCSL and RMYSL leagues in northern and central VA. In all but two (2) of those seasons we were in the Premier Division or Division 1. I am currently the Soccer Director for an I9 franchise here in Fredericksburg, VA. I have coached ages 3 thru 20. I possess a National USSF B License.
I was part of the 1st soccer program in Overlea-Fullerton, Md. I played in High School and at a Div. 3 college, also in Md., before playing in what was known then as the Maryland Professional Soccer League.
My playing career was ended by a serious knee injury, which led me into coaching.
Start with some basic soccer specific stretching. We then move to an on the ball, technical warm up. This will be used to do a cursory evaluation of the players feel for the ball (Top, Bottom and Sides of the Feet.) Are they rigid in their movements or fluid? Are they R or L foot dominant? What is their level of athleticism? There will be constant communication with the player during the session about what they are thinking as they are acting. The session would then evolve into how the technique is most effectively used in Match conditions. All of these evaluations will be used to mutually design a player centric development program. Note - I am a firm believer in stopping sessions to communicate coaching points in real time. I run very energetic and challenging sessions. I depend alot on feedback from the player. At the end of the session we will begin discussing the next session with maybe some "homework" handed out.
