More About Coach Shayla

While I have not held a formal coaching position, I have developed strong leadership and mentoring skills through playing soccer since the age of 4. Over the years, I have consistently taken on the role of supporting and guiding my teammates during practices and games, staying motivated, and working effectively as a team.
My experience as a long-term athlete has given me a strong understanding of the game, including fundamentals, strategy, and teamwork. I have informally helped train teammates by offering feedback and encouraging a positive and competitive environment.
I am most comfortable working with athletes in team settings and enjoy helping others build confidence and improve their performance. My background in soccer has also taught me discipline, communication, and the importance of leadership both on and off the field.

I am currently a collegiate soccer player at Southwestern Adventist University, where I continue to compete at a high level while developing my technical skills, game understanding, and leadership abilities.
Prior to competing at the collegiate level, I earned Offensive Player of the Year during my freshman year of high school, recognizing my impact and performance on the field. I was also selected as an Honorable Mention during my senior year, which reflected my consistency, work ethic, and contribution to my team throughout my high school career.
Having played soccer since the age of 4, I bring years of competitive experience, discipline, and a strong understanding of team dynamics. My background as both a player and teammate has shaped my ability to lead, communicate effectively, and contribute positively in competitive environments.

A typical training session with me is structured, high-energy, and focused on both skill development and overall performance. I design each session to match the athlete’s skill level while still challenging them to improve.
We usually start with a dynamic warm-up to get the body loose and ready, including light cardio, mobility work, and ball touches. From there, I move into technical drills that focus on core soccer skills such as ball control, passing accuracy, dribbling under pressure, and first touch.
I also focus on conditioning and footwork, using agility drills, speed work, and quick direction changes to improve overall athletic performance. Throughout the session, I provide constant feedback and encouragement to help athletes correct mistakes and build confidence.
We finish with a cool-down and a quick review of what was worked on, along with areas to continue improving.
Overall, my goal is to create a positive but competitive environment where athletes can develop their skills, increase their confidence, and better understand the game.
