More About Coach Ryan

I have five years of experience coaching and training youth athletes, focusing on building their technical skills, physical conditioning, and mental confidence. Throughout my coaching career, I’ve worked with athletes of all levels. From beginners learning the fundamentals to professionals refining their game and maintaining peak performance. I began my journey as an independent trainer, developing personalized programs for local youth players, before merging with Next Star Soccer, where I expanded my experience and impact. I work with kids of all ages, adapting my coaching approach to match their developmental stage and learning style. While I don’t hold formal coaching certifications, I bring over 20 years of playing experience at the highest youth levels, which allows me to provide authentic, experience-based guidance and mentorship. My goal is always to help players reach their fullest potential both on and off the field.

During my youth career, I had the privilege of playing for D.C. United Academy, one of the top development programs in the United States. I spent three years training and competing at an elite level. My time there provided me with exposure to high-level coaching, tactical education, and competitive play against some of the best young talents in the nation. I also had the opportunity to travel to Europe multiple times, where I competed against several professional youth academies. These international experiences allowed me to test my abilities against different styles of play and gain valuable insight into the global game. In 2019, I committed to Radford University, a Division I program consistently ranked among the top 25 in the nation. After three seasons at Radford, I advanced to the professional level by signing with the Maryland Bobcats.

A typical session with me is designed to help each athlete improve their technical ability, decision-making, and overall fitness through structured, high-energy drills. We start with a 5-minute warmup and activation juggling session to get loose, build touch, and improve coordination. Next, we move into two 10-minute dribbling technical drills, focusing on ball control, changes of direction, and speed with the ball. After a quick 2-minute water break, we shift to passing drills, working on accuracy, timing, and movement off the ball. Then we go into some attacking and defending drills that simulate in game situations to sharpen their craft. We end every session with a 1v1s or fitness. Every session challenges players to grow technically, physically, and mentally.
