More About Coach Rourk

For the past 25 years, I’ve been dedicated to coaching youth lacrosse in various town programs. My teams consistently rank among the top in the area, and many of my students have gone on to have successful high school careers and even play lacrosse at the college level. My specialization lies in coaching goalies, where I’ve honed my expertise and helped young athletes develop their skills

Throughout my journey in sports, I’ve excelled both on the football field and the lacrosse field. During high school, I was a dedicated player in both football and lacrosse, contributing my skills and passion to the teams. However, it was during my college years at Colorado State University that I truly made my mark. Representing the university in lacrosse, I honed my abilities, competed at a higher level, and left a lasting impact on the sport.

Warm-Up and Mobility: We kick off with a thorough warm-up to prevent injuries and get the blood flowing. Dynamic stretches, light jogging, and mobility exercises prepare the athlete for the intense drills ahead.

Skill-Specific Drills: Depending on the athlete’s focus, we dive into skill-specific drills. For goalies, this might involve footwork, reaction time, and positioning. For field players, we work on passing accuracy, dodging, and ground ball pickups.

Game Situations: I simulate game scenarios to enhance decision-making. We practice offensive and defensive plays, emphasizing teamwork and adaptability. Athletes learn to read opponents, anticipate moves, and execute under pressure.

Feedback and Corrections: Throughout the session, I provide constructive feedback. Whether it’s adjusting hand placement on the stick or tweaking footwork, I help athletes fine-tune their techniques.

Conditioning and Endurance: Lacrosse demands endurance. We incorporate conditioning drills like sprints, interval runs, and agility ladder work. Building stamina is crucial for maintaining peak performance during games.

Cool Down and Recovery: We wrap up with a cool-down, including static stretches. I emphasize the importance of recovery—hydration, nutrition, and rest—to optimize performance.

Client Reviews

Coach Traynor was my key to success as a goalie. He taught me every fundamental detail a goalie could learn allowing me to base my style and play off of his coaching to become the goalie I am today. He isn’t the funniest or most energetic person but his booming voice will bury knowledge into a goalies brain.
As my coach, Rourk was a pillar of strength during tough times and a source of joy during the great times. Whether we won or lost, I always looked forward to practice the next day. It wasn’t just about having fun; each session was an opportunity to enhance my football skills and grow as a person
