More About Coach Roger

I have been coaching baseball at the youth and collegiate level for 10 yrs. I run the NY expos Travel program ages 12-18 and I am the head baseball coach at Queensborough Community College. I run annual baseball clinics at the school and for the local little league HBQVB (ages 5-7, 8-12 & 13-17). I also give private lessons for ages 12 & up. I have a masters degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration with a specialization in Exercise & Sports Science. I believe in developing baseball players as well as young men that are better prepared for baseball and life. I accomplish this feat by mixing my training with both physical and mental training. I walk all my athletes through goal setting processes, visualization, imagery, self-talk and centering when in the moment. Physical training will make a good athlete and when combined with the mental training it will increase an athlete chances of success on and off the field.

I played baseball my whole life. I played in High School where I was the team MVP in my Junior and Senior years. From HS I moved on to play at Queensborough Community College. In my second year at QCC I was named all Region Pitcher of the Year and All-American Pitcher of the Year. After Queensborough I finished my playing career at Adelphi University where I finished in the top 3 in all offensive categories. After College I chose to stop pursuing my playing career to become a College coach at QCC. Coaching is my passion and my life and to be able to give back through the sport that has helped develop me is a blessing and a dream come true. I have been a head baseball coach for 5 years and have helped lead my teams to 3 championships and 2 runner-ups. I was named Coach of the Year in 2013. I study the game of baseball and training methods to stay current in all aspects of my training.

I do not offer a typical training session. All my drills and training is individual and based on an athlete by athlete basis. I have experience training athletes for throwing, pitching, fielding (all positions), hitting and conditioning. I do require all my athletes to take the first 5 minutes to get warm. The reason for this is an athlete cannot perform at optimal output until they raise their core temperature 1 degree Celsius. This is done by generating a light sweat and this will also decrease the chances of injury. I also like to leave time in-between my training sessions so I can take time after we train to discuss what we went over that day and to go over mental training, journal logs and goals for the next training session.

I want to thank Coach Roger for his help with hitting. The way he breaks down hitting and simplifies hitting is unmatched by any other Coach I have worked with previously
