More About Coach Riley
I began my coaching career at the collegiate level in 2017 where I was a Student Assistant at The University of Montana where we won the Big Sky conference and went to the NCAA tournament. After that season, I accepted a full time assistant job at The College of Idaho which is one of the top NAIA programs in the country. My roles included player development, recruiting and scouting.
Aside from coaching at the college level, I assist in running youth basketball camps of 200+ kids in my hometown in Montana each summer. I also founded and ran Next Level Basketball Training in 2013 while I was playing in college. In my off-seasons I would train 25-30 players, grades 7th - 12th each summer. Whether it be current pros or a player that simply needs introduced to the game, I have experience training all ages and skills levels and truly enjoy seeing their improvement each session.
I was a three year all-state selection my sophomore through senior year in high school, leading the state of Montana in scoring my junior and senior seasons and scoring over 2,000 total career points. As a senior I was ranked as a top 50 point guard in country and was recruited and offered scholarships from Division1 schools including Pac-12, Mountain West, Big Sky and WAC schools. I played 3 years at the University of Montana (D1 in the Big Sky conference) where I was a part of a championship team in 2014-15. I finished my career at Rocky Mountain College (NAIA) in 2016 where I was an All-American selection.
Before working with a player, I like to take the time to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Based on that I develop a training plan so it doesn't look the exact same for each player. Sessions consist of realistic drills that are going to build on themselves and translate to the game. I believe there's a ton of value in not just explaining a drill but being able to show it so each workout I'll be demonstrating the drills. All workouts will include ball handling, footwork, finishes at the rim, and shooting (off the dribble and catch).
