More About Coach Renee

I have coached at several soccer camps affiliated with my college university, including soccer girls’ camps, where we focused on both technical skill development and leadership, all while ensuring the players had fun. These camps, primarily for girls ranging from U8 to U14, allowed me to instill important values like teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship, helping young athletes grow both on and off the field. I’ve also worked at camps with both boys and girls, ranging from U8 to U14, where I coached mixed groups and applied similar principles of skill development and leadership.

My primary focus has been on individualized training, where I work with small groups or one-on-one sessions. I typically coach players between the ages of 6 and 14, mostly working with U12 girls, though I’ve also worked with boys in this age range as well. I specialize in technical skill development—an area where I have significant experience, having honed my own technical abilities growing up. This expertise allows me to design training sessions that target fundamental skills like dribbling, passing, and ball control, as well as more advanced techniques as players progress.

I have had the privilege of competing at a high level throughout my soccer career, which has significantly shaped my approach to coaching. I played Division I soccer, representing Creighton University and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, before transferring to Central Methodist University, where I was part of a team that won the conference, was ranked 4th in the nation and advanced to nationals. During my time at Central Methodist, I earned an All-Conference award, and while at nationals, I was honored with the Champions of Character Award.
In addition to my collegiate experience, I played for IMG Academy all of my high school, where I played for the top Elite Development Academy (DA) team. I was a starter for all four years and earned recognition as a First Team player. I also received the Coaches Award for my hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence on and off the field.
I’ve also competed at the semi-professional level with Sunflower State FC, where we won the league, and I was ranked among the top players for most assists. During the summer, I play for the FC Porto Men’s League team, further enhancing my playing experience.
Additionally, I was part of a winter training group for girls playing in the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL), where I had the opportunity to practice with top-level female players aspiring to play professionally. I also trained with the Sunflower State Men’s team, gaining further exposure to high-level competition.
I recently graduated and completed my final season of college soccer, but I’m planning to play overseas next year to continue my career and further my development as a player.
These experiences have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and insight into both the technical, tactical and mental aspects of the game, which I now apply in my coaching. Through my competitive journey, I’ve learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

When a client works with me, the session is designed to be engaging, focused, and tailored to their specific needs. Each session is centered around improving technical skills, with a strong emphasis on footwork, ball control, and game-specific scenarios.
First Session: Skill Assessment
In our first session together, my primary focus is on assessing the athlete’s current skill level. I’ll observe how they handle the ball, their technical abilities, and their overall awareness on the field. This helps me understand their strengths and areas for improvement, allowing me to tailor future sessions more effectively.
Warm-Up: Agility & Reaction Training
Every session begins with a warm-up that is not only physical but also helps build agility and reaction time. I incorporate exercises like ladder drills, cone drills, and dynamic stretching to get the body moving quickly and ready for the intensity of the session. This prepares the athlete for more technical work and simulates real-game situations where quick reactions and sharp movements are key.
Technical Skills Development
The core of each session revolves around technical work, with a primary focus on improving foot skills and ball control. I guide the athlete through drills that emphasize dribbling, passing, trapping, and turning with the ball. I make sure these drills challenge the athlete’s coordination and precision while also increasing their comfort with the ball.
Game-Like Scenarios
I believe that soccer is a game of decision-making, so I make sure to incorporate game-like situations into every session. This could include small-sided drills or simulated scenarios where the athlete has to apply their technical skills under pressure. The goal is to ensure that the player can perform skills not just in isolation but in real match conditions.
Progression & Feedback
Throughout the session, I adjust the intensity and difficulty of drills based on the athlete’s progress. After each drill, I offer constructive feedback, focusing on areas for improvement as well as reinforcing strengths. My approach is highly interactive, ensuring the athlete understands the “why” behind each drill and how it connects to their overall development.
Cool-Down & Reflection
At the end of each session, we go through a cool-down to help the athlete recover and reduce the risk of injury. During this time, I also reflect on the session, discussing progress made and areas to focus on for the next workout. This helps keep the athlete motivated and provides a roadmap for their continuous improvement.
This plan ensures that every session is productive and customized to the individual’s needs, while also building a solid foundation in essential soccer skills. The focus on technical work, game-like simulations, and continual assessment will help athletes grow both in training and on the field.

Client Reviews

Coach Renee was a great coach. She put my 11 year old at ease right away and they practiced great foot work. I could tell she was gauging my daughters technical skills and adjusted their practice right away. She made it fun but also skillful and my daughter was able to come home and practice the skills independently.
