More About Coach Peter

Hello, my name is Peter Townes, and I have over 30 years experience training athletes in tennis for collegiate scholarships and the professional tour. In my experiences I have trained all levels, from beginner level ages 5 to Seniors ages 80+. I am from Washington,DC where I currently reside and train students from all over the country. I’ve lived in Atlanta,Ga for 12 years working my own academy and as an Assistant Men’s D-3 Coach at Emory University, where we won our Conference Championships And competed for a National Title every year. Currently, In my spare time I’m a volunteer Assistant Men’s & Women’s Head Coach @D-1 Morgan State University. The Men just won the Conference and competed for a National Title. I am a USPTR, Certified Professional.

As a player I have won over 50 sectional and National tournaments, singles and doubles. As a junior, I earned a full tennis scholarship to South Carolina State University, where as a freshman I was an All-American.

Taking a one hour lesson with me is totally based what the client wants to achieve. If they are beginner/recreation level, we start with a open warmup in the short court (10-15 minutes) to evaluate their skill set and decide what we’ll start with. Once your level has been established we usually start with the forehand then backhand, teaching you the fundamentals of each stroke for about 30-35 minutes. The last (10-13 minutes) shift to a closed format with me feeding the client forehands and backhands to work cardiovascular fitness and to see if they are able to execute the skills learned on the move with very little instruction. Every lesson is curtailed to each student’s age and skill set.

Client Reviews

Coach Pete teaches more than tennis - he teaches work ethic, he teaches professionalism, he teaches how to be an adult. Training with Pete doesn't just make you a better player, it makes you take ownership of your own personal development. It's those skills that brought me success in junior and college tennis, and it's those skills that continue to pay off as I launch my medical career.
Working with Coach Pete at Next Level Tennis instilled discipline in me from a young age. The consistency and focus required to perform at a high level taught me how to focus on a goal and see it through to completion. Coach Pete is dedicated to helping everyone who comes into his academy understand the game of tennis and makes practice feel like coming home to a second family. The fundamentals I learned from Next Level Tennis not only helped me excel in a collegiate setting, but gave me the confidence and belief I needed to become the successful businesswoman I am today. Thanks Coach Pete for believing in me and always helping my realize my greatest potential.
Next Level Tennis and Education was an important part of my life growing up. It helped me become a better tennis player, better athlete but most importantly, I learned lessons on the court that have had an incredible impact on my life. Of all the things I learned, one of the greatest lessons Pete taught me was the value of hard work. Pete always preached putting in the hours in everything we did, whether it was hitting forehands or hitting the books. This work ethic helped me succeed academically when I went to college and it has helped me get to where I am in my career. I attribute a lot of my success to the work ethic and desire to succeed that Pete and Next Level Tennis instilled in me from a young age.
