More About Coach Paul
I have experience in coaching and instructing baseball from the Little League through 16U travel baseball levels. This experience enables me to instruct both young players new to the support and to reinforce or improve the more experienced athlete at the high school level in primarily the area of catching, as well as hitting and infield/outfield defense. I am also a board member of the local Little League and conduct player and coach clinics.
My combination of professional skills, volunteer service, and baseball/softball coaching and instruction experience provide for a mix of organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Currently working at Pratt & Whitney as the GSE F119 Business Lead and satisfying my passion for instruction/coaching as a 16U baseball head coach and baseball instructor.
I competed as a baseball player through the high school varsity level and continued pursuing my love of the game and of education through coaching and instructing.
I would first assess the athlete's ability and discuss their goals at a first session. During this first session I'm looking at the player's fundamentals and their individual physical and mental attributes before putting together a plan for future sessions. My typical catching sessions include the fitness and agility work needed to increase a catcher's potential and skill level. The session then continues working through catching skills. These are interactive sessions with the players where we are constantly discussing what works for the player and I am adjusting my instruction and session plans as needed.
There are specific drills that I and most instructors use but the key is to take the player from executing drills to implementing the skills in the game. So, I try to put a game situation atmosphere into many of the drills that I use. I use the same approach in instructing hitting and fielding. We as instructors need to listen to and observe our players and not try to force them into a cookie cutter program for every student.
