More About Coach Nick
As a reading teacher in an elementary school I pride myself on having tremendous patience and understanding when it comes to my students. Being CPR and First Aid certified, I have started my own physical fitness program as the head trainer, within the elementary school. I work with about 20 5th grade boys and teach them the fundamentals of fitness. Character is something that holds tremendous weight in my life, so every month we would have a "character day" where we discuss the attributes of a man of good moral character. I also have two younger brothers, and have assisted their full time baseball coaches during the summers when I was in high school. A quote that I like to remind myself of periodically reads as follows " The best coaches do not do it for the money, they do it to ensure their players receive the same values and experiences sports once gave them". I would like to join the Coach Up team with the mentality to embark the same experiences my coaches gave me unto all of the players I work with.
Specific Coaching Experiences:
- Created and coached my own fitness program at Joseph Zito Elementary School
- Trained, motivated, and developed the character of 20 5th grade boys in my fitness program
- Assistant coach for U12, U13, and U14 baseball (2010-2013)
I have played baseball since I was five years old. I have played on countless travel teams, and all star games within those leagues. In addition, I was selected for varsity baseball at West Islip High School in the 10th grade. I was named captain of two of my travel teams during the summers of 2011 and 2012. I was also nominated for MVP the same year. During my last summer in New York I played shortstop in a men's league with the NYPD's 13th precinct. As I left for college, I played shortstop at Arizona State University on the club baseball team. I worked my way from tee-ball, to slow pitch baseball, to Varsity baseball, and finally to the adult level.
Specific Highlights:
- Two-time MVP at West Islip High School (2010-2011)
- Elected 2012 all regional team (Long Island)
- Elected team captain for two consecutive years (2011-2012)
- Starting Shortstop on NYPD's 13th precinct men's league at age 18 and 19. (2012-2013)
Each training day will be specific to the particular mechanic we will be working on that day. I specify in hitting for average, hitting for power, fielding, base running, strength, and conditioning. A typical session will look like this:
10 minutes running/stretching
10 minutes warm up (throwing)
30 minutes of intense training in specified area
10 minutes cool down and journal (I like to receive feedback of the session from my players)
Baseball is a game where intellect meets athleticism. Throughout each session we will be going over situational awareness, and the various amount of scenarios you can face as a baseball player. Each player is unique in their own way, and I will monitor and adjust each lesson to yield the greatest results from each of my players.
