More About Coach Nicholas

I individually trained pitchers ranging in age from 7 to 16 years old for 2 years in Clarksville, TN while serving in the Army. I also worked 2 open camps and 1 camp for a local youth baseball team. Prior to individual instruction, I assisted with my dad coaching the town little league team when I was in high school. I'm very patient with kids of all talent levels and guarantee improvement in the mental and physical aspects of pitching.

All State pitcher at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT in 2010
Played 4 years of college baseball at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY from 2010-2014
Started 3 out of my 4 years there and earned All Conference Honors senior year
Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2014 MLB Draft
Current pitcher assigned to the Hickory Crawdads, Low A affiliate of the Texas Rangers

I can either do 30 minutes or hour long sessions
A typical workout will include a warm-up stretch and a light toss and catch to get loose
Depending on age and assessed talent level, I will move into some drill work in which we will break down the mechanical aspects in a pitcher's windup
We will discuss and work on the points in a pitcher's mechanics where things can go wrong or where we can get more out of our bodies with certain adjustments. At this point in the lesson, we're focusing primarily on how to get the most out of our bodies as possible while also staying under control. This can take anywhere from 5-15 minutes depending on the athlete.
I like to get each pitcher some time off the mound or at least a flat ground at the end of each lesson to implement what we've worked on up to that point. At this point, the lesson is usually winding down and we will review what we learned in the day's lesson as well as develop a way forward. I will likely engage the parent regarding future lessons.
Future lessons will include getting into deeper topics within pitching including developing secondary pitches off the fastball, pitch location and the importance of pitching to spots, pitch selection, pitching in different counts, pitching with runners on, pickoffs, fielding your position as a pitcher, developing good habits and routines, overcoming adversity on the mound, mentally defeating the hitter, building confidence, etc.
Lessons are $50 per hour unless you choose one of the following options:
One time only half hour: $30
4 week program: $175
8 week program: $300
Group of 2: $50 for half hour, $80 for hour
Group of 3: $60 for half hour, $100 for hour
Group of 4: $75 for half hour, $120 for hour
Groups of 5 or more: $20 per player per hour
