More About Coach Monty

Coached teams, clinics and camps in various areas throughout the Tri-State Area (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) as well as the Midwest. I have been working as a trainer at OST Basketball training at OST Basketball in Randolph, New Jersey for the past year. I have extensive work training kids from as young as second grade all the way up to college and professional athletes.

I have played at a high level throughout my playing career, and am still playing professionally. In high school I competed on the Nike EYBL circuit with the #2 ranked AAU team in the nation, All-Ohio Red. In high school I was an All-State (2x), All-District (3x) and All-Conference (3x) performer in the highest division of high school athletics in Ohio. Earned over 30 scholarship offers to play Division 1 basketball and eventually committed to play at Lafayette College (D1) in the Patriot League, and was a 3 year starter. At Lafayette, earned a berth to the NCAA March Madness tournament in 2015 by winning a Patriot League Championship. With an extra year of eligibility due to a medical redshirt, I grad-transferred to the University of Pittsburgh (ACC) and competed at the highest level of college basketball while earning a master's degree. After college, I signed to play professionally overseas in the Armenia-A League and was named Shooting Guard of the Year of the League while winning the Eurasian Cup Championship with the team. Following my first professional season, I signed a deal to play with the Lakeland Magic (Orlando Magic affiliate) of the NBA G-League and was a G-League free agent when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the remainder of the season. I have been training in anticipation of resuming my professional career while training and coaching kids and young adults during the process.

During my training sessions, I like to incorporate many of the drills and knowledge I learned from being a Division student-athlete as well as a professional athlete in to the workout. In most workouts, we start with a ball handling warm-up that includes various stationary and on-the-move dribble moves (1/2 ball) that will then translate in to the game-like situations we will do later in the session. After that, we get will get in to a game-like shooting warm up that also translates in to the drills we will also do later in the session. Following the dribble and shooting warm-ups, we will get in to our game like drills. Depending on the session, these drills will encompass different in-game scenarios such as; transition finishing, pick and roll, hand-offs, isolation and 1on1 post moves. All of which are specifically targeted to simulate game-like situations. At the end, we will finish with a conditioning drill that includes some of the finishes, and shooting that we incorporated throughout the entirety of the workout!
