More About Coach Mike

I have coached ages 6 up to the collegiate level. I am currently coaching, varsity high school and travel basketball. I have been coaching for the last 10 years working with several programs in and around the DMV. I also still coach at the recreation community level as an opportunity to give back to young athletes who may not have exposure to high skilled coaching. All players I am currently training play for their schools or on a local travel team. My coaching style is results oriented and focuses on getting youth athletes prepared for the next level of competition. I start by helping youth athletes develop the fundamental blocks that will allow them to expand their game to the more advanced techniques that apply to todays game. I develop positionless basketball players so if they grow into another position or move to a different school and have to play at another position they are not at a disadvantage.

As a child, I was a multi-sport athlete. I played basketball from age 6 to my young adulthood along with boxing until I went to college. Both sports helped me develop discipline and accountability that I went on to apply in my professional life once I stopped playing competitively. I now work to share and instill these same characteristics in the players I coach today. I won championships at each level and developed an appreciation for the teamwork and sacrifice it takes to accomplish a unified common goal. I played on teams where I was the primary scorer and also played on teams where I had limited minutes and still enjoyed playing the game. Having this type of experience allows me to speak to players regardless of the stage they are currently in and help coach them up on the mental aspect of the game which dictates how they perform on the court. During my time as a player I won several individual awards on the court and in the classroom.

A family can expect in the first session with an athlete for us to determine where the player current skill set is. This will be done by having dialogue with the player on their current experience and what goals they are looking to accomplish by coming to me for skills training. I will then take them through a series of drills to determine their skill set as a player. Once this is complete and we have determined where the player skill set is, we will begin developing a plan to help them achieve their individual goals. Session plans will be catered to meet these needs. The player will also be responsible for continued training when they are not with me by utilizing a basketball application where I will assign drills the athlete must complete every week before returning back to training. To see real results the player must practice outside of skills training and with the use of technology this can be assigned and tracked by me which creates accountability and adds value to the training process.

Coach Mike is great with my son. He is able to assess his skill level and make the adjustments to help him improve. My son just finished his first 4 sessions with Coach Mike and I can see a major improvement in his basketball skills.

Excellent first session. Looking forward to building a strong foundation with my 9 year old son.

Coach Mike has been great! He works well with my 11 yr old and my son likes him too. I have worked with a few coaches before we met Coach Mike and he has by far been the best. We will be sticking with him for a while. I trust that he can get my son where he needs to be.

Great coach

Coach Mike was awesome! He helped our 14 year old with fundamentals, increasing his confidence in 3 lessons so that he feels comfortable joining pick up games that used to intimidate him. He enjoys practicing what he learned in our driveway at home. Coach Mike explained things well and listened to our son’s questions with patience and professionalism. He was easy to reach and flexible with scheduling. We will definitely come back to Coach Mike when our son is ready to take it to the next level. Thanks Coach Mike!

He was awesome. My 10 year old loved learning what coach Mike taught him. And he used some of the techniques in a game and they worked he was so excited. I'm pleased.

Coach Mike is a professional trainer. I mean that in every sense of the word. He was great at communicating the schedule to me and did a wonderful job communicating instructions to my son during his training. Aj has only been playing organized basketball for 2 years and was looking to improve his skill level going into High School. In only 2 sessions Coach Mike has already taught him skills he never knew and improved his understanding of the game. I look forward to seeing my son’s growth. Both my son I think very highly of Coach Mike and I would recommend him to anyone.

My daughter enjoyed working with Coach Mike. She wants him to train her for the rest of her years in highschool .
