More About Coach Mike

I am a Certified Mental Performance Coach through Brian Cain's Mental Performance Mastery program and a Certified Life and Success Coach through Jay Shetty's program. I also hold certifications in meditation, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), and somatic coaching (body-based awareness and nervous system regulation).

I founded Reworking Mindsets, a Mindset and Mental Performance coaching business where I work with individual athletes, teams, and driven professionals. I work with athletes of all ages and across all sports. The mental skills I coach are universal: confidence, focus, composure under pressure, bouncing back from mistakes, managing nerves, building pre-game routines, and developing the habits and discipline that lead to consistent performance.

Most coaches talk about mental toughness and being mentally strong, but they never explain what that actually means or show athletes how to develop it. That's what I do. I give athletes a structured approach to training their mind the same way they train their body, with real tools they can use before, during, and after competition.

I played college baseball at Hawaii Pacific University for three years and at Grand Canyon University for my final year. I was primarily and outfielder, but also pitched. I was also a walk-on at both schools and earned my spot on each team and through a coaching change at HPU. I also spent time in professional baseball environments including independent league camps and spring training with the Freedom Pro Baseball League.

My experience as an athlete taught me firsthand that physical talent only takes you so far. The athletes who performed consistently under pressure were the ones who had the mental side of the game figured out. That realization is what led me to pursue mental performance coaching after my playing career.

Sessions are 60 minutes and are available in person in the Phoenix, Arizona area or virtually through video call.

I use a structured framework built around core mental performance areas, but every session is tailored to the individual athlete and what they're dealing with in their sport right now.

We start with a check-in: what's going on in their sport, what's coming up, and what's on their mind. This helps me understand where the athlete is mentally so we focus on what matters most that day. From there, we work through mental performance exercises and tools. Some sessions focus on building a pre-game or pre-performance routine. Others focus on confidence, learning how to refocus after a mistake, managing nerves before a big game, visualization, breathing techniques, self-talk, or strengthening daily habits and discipline.

Every session ends with one clear takeaway, something simple and specific the athlete can practice at their next game or training session right away. The goal is always for the athlete to leave with something they can use immediately, not just something they talked about.
