Madison Square Garden Tri-State All-Star First Team ... three-time New York Daily News All-City First-Team ... three-time New York Newsday First-Team All-Brooklyn All-Star ...2006 New York Knicks Dave DeBusschere Award ... 2005 Street & Smith's Honorable Mention All-American ... My session plan is tailored to each athlete depending on their current grade and skill level. My philosophy to training is Form Rhythm Accuracy Speed. Our first step is to establish a level of baseline fundamentals. This includes but is not limited to layup footwork, ball-handling (single moves), shooting form/technique, functional movements

Client Reviews
Teri (CoachUp client)
I couldn't be more happy that Coach Melanie is coaching our daughter, Arely (age 10). Even though Arely had just come from her team basketball practice and Coach Mel worked her really hard, Arely was laughing and enjoying herself the entire time. Arely was in a good mood the rest of the day!
Aryana, Freshman on Varsity (Testimonial)
Best thing that's ever happened to me.
Neal C, dad of Ben C. (Testimonial)
Melanie is an outstanding skills coach, knowing how to develop each age group, and how to progress over time to increase their individual and team skills. She is also an outstanding team coach, teaching team play, discipline, and what it takes to win! My son has benefited greatly in working with Melanie, and I am sure any boy or girl will as well... as long as they practice what they learn!
Laurie Q. / Lex Mom (Testimonial)
Melanie Murphy is the first basketball coach to motivate my daughter to learn how to play the game. After Lexi joined her practices, she was motivated to do her basketball homework and make an effort to develop her skills. Whether it be shooting with her non-dominant hand or practicing to get better body position on defense, Lexi is invested in making herself a better basketball player. Impressive that Melanie could teach Lexi the correct shooting form with the playback of one video during practice. Lexi became a much more accurate shooter thereafter. Thanks for making the practices fun with music and competition.
- Kristen L., mom of Austin B. (Testimonial)
I first met Melanie Murphy two years ago when one of my friends mentioned that Melanie was working with her son on basketball skills. We joined her son for weekend basketball workouts and were immediately impressed with her focus on both athletic as well as academic training. After just a short while training with Melanie, I noticed a huge improvement in my son's basketball skills. Throughout the first year training with Melanie, the biggest growth I saw in my son was in his understanding that a positive "can do" attitude was inextricably linked to his athletic abilities. This positive attitude also translated to his academic abilities, something that Melanie continues to emphasize. Over the past two years, Melanie constantly looked out for opportunities in which Austin could grow. Because he valued her opinion and because he trusted her guidance, he often tried things outside of his comfort level and was surprised over and over again that he could indeed do something he once thought was out of his reach. Melanie has been a tremendously valuable influence on Austin's growth as both an athlete and as a student, and we will be forever grateful for the positive impact she has had on his life.
