More About Coach Max
I am currently a "student manager/coach" at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) for the men's soccer program. Although this may sound like I am not coaching, I have had the opportunity to run the players through fitness sessions and extra one on one sessions, or positional work if they ever ask for additional work. Outside of this numerous families have asked me to do private lessons with their kids for soccer. I work with any age range and any level. I am currently working on getting my coaching licenses so I can be a youth club coach.
I played club soccer at Hoosier FC. We won a state cup in 2016 and played in the National league. I also played soccer in high school at Carmel and was a captain for 2 years. I then went on to play soccer for 3 years at the Division 1 level at IUPUI. Due to some health complications I decided to quit and take upon the roll of being a student manger/coach.
First I will always start with a 5-10 minute dynamic warm up. Sometimes I incorporate the dynamic warm up in the first drill. After the drill I will then go into getting the client a lot of touches on the ball. Small quick passes with some dribbling. This allows them to get warmed up but also works on technique. Then we will get into a little bit more of functional/positional work with this being the "main chunk" of the training session. This will typically be 3 exercises lasting about 30-40 minutes. And for the last 10-20 minutes I will have them working on finishing. No matter what position on the field this allows the player to be confident in front of goal and building the finishing technique so when they do get the opportunity to score in a game, they can take advantage of it.
