More About Coach Matt

I have coached kids of all ages at soccer camps and skills clinics for 6+ years, I have also coached a U10 soccer team for a season at TFC (Triangle Futbol Club) in NC. Additionally, I have plenty of experience with children as I have three kids of my own!

I played youth soccer at Wolverhampton Wanderers in England from 14-19 years old. I went to college in the states at UMBC where I played two seasons and received America East rookie of the year and also midfielder of the year twice. I then decided to pursue professional soccer. I played for the Richmond Kickers for two years in the USL and won one championship. While playing outdoor I also played pro indoor soccer for the Baltimore Blast and won two championships there. I then got the chance to play in the NASL for the Carolina Railhawks where I won MVP of the team in my first of four years there. I played my last four seasons in the MLS, two for the Vancouver Whitecaps and two for the Chicago Fire, this is my first year back with the Carolina Railhawks!

I am very flexible in terms of session layout, if there is something specific you (or your child) would like to improve I will come up with a plan for that. If not I will provide a balanced session focusing on different technical work.

Coach Matt is great! He has worked with my daughter for 2 sessions and we are already seeing a difference. He is great at explaining to her where she needs to improve. She has put into action his recommendations and is seeing a difference in her game. He is very personable and is great at coaching kids.

Matt is first of all a great guy who has kids himself so he knows how to coach kids naturally well. Matt shows up early and is diligent about having a well organized session. He also responds promptly to your messages. He coaches in a way that the kids are having great fun but also learning. He seems to really enjoy it and the kids like him. And he is amazingly talented - I have seen some unbelievable moves already and I think we've only scratched the surface. Those inspire the kids. i feel so fortunate we found him.
