More About Coach Matt

Currently serves as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach and Director of Player Development for Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, CA. In my 8 years of coaching (6 at the college level), I have developed 2 All-Americans, 2 Conference Player of the Year, 11 All-Conference Selections. I have helped teams reach the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

I have worked with players of all ages, ranging from basic skill training for adolescents, up to advanced skill training for pros.

I was a 3 sport captain in high school (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball), and went on to play both basketball and baseball at the collegiate level. I played minor league baseball for 3 years, before transitioning back into coaching basketball.

Skill training is essential, but does not just stop with physical skills. I focus on game-like teaching, training, decision making, and repetition, and pair it with mental skills to make each athlete understand the WHY. No two sessions will ever be the same. The ability of an athlete to adapt to new situations is highly important. All sessions will include a physical and mental aspect of training. The physical aspects will include necessary conditioning and skill development, while mental aspects could include film study, imagery, and/or goal setting (depending on age and skill level of the client).

Client Reviews

Coach Matt was professional, patient and fun. It made a huge difference in my daughter's skill development immediately. I would think he is a great coach for kids at all skill levels.
