More About Coach Matthew

My experience ranges from coaching, instructing and mentoring baseball and softball athletes 5-18yrs old. As a head coach of youth teams and 5 years of coaching varsity high school baseball, I have been able to strengthen and train successful baseball programs and student athletes. The launch of my coaching career began in the southeastern region of Virginia and migrated into Eastern Pennsylvania. My impact as an instructor is to develop a 5-tool player and become a positive role model along the path to getting better.

At first, I'd like to evaluate an athlete and get a feel for the mechanics and skill set to determine the direction for training (Fielding, Throwing, Hitting, Speed, Knowledge)
Each lesson is catered to the specific skill & age set of the athlete.
Hitting lessons begin from the ground up (Grip, Stance, Load, Stride, Swing, Contact, Follow through and Extension)
All hitting lessons begin on a tee until the athlete develops the proper mechanics to progress to soft toss then live feeds.
As for fielding, throwing and speed lessons, they are as gradual as hitting.
I develop a plan with the athlete and parent and keep a record of lessons to value the progression course. I care about the development piece and hold the athlete accountable for completing 10min take home tasks to focus on the prior and future lesson.

As we strive to grow lessons in the facilities, we often focus on scheduling and performing evaluations. Last week was no exception in Broomall as we were able to create a lasting impact on one of our clients. A 12 year old came in, looking like his parents dragged him here and did not seem to be interested. Through conversation we learned about a bad experience the player had this past summer on a local travel team and was just about to give up on playing baseball. Our instructor was able to connect with him and create a fun experience that was a reminder as to why we all play the game. After the evaluation Matt sat and talked with him for a bit and when they came out of the tunnel, the child said to his parents he'd like to do lessons with Matt. It was a great job of bonding and giving the proper positive reinforcement that the child needed to enjoying playing baseball again. As we all continue to instruct players this is a great example of why we do what we do and how big of an impact you can make. Keep in mind it isn't always the best drill that makes the difference but how much you care about your clients and how well you can connect. Great Job Matty!!!
Matthew, Your lessons are showing dividends....Brett went 3 for 4 , also had a walk. One of the hits was a double , he also had 2 great plays in the field. One great throw from 3rd base, and the other at 2nd. You mentioned you wanted to see his game swings....i have 3 AB's to send you. A strikeout looking, and 2 singles. I didn't get the double or walk. Considering this is his first season into baseball, kid pitch especially,and you guys started fresh in January, I am very excited to see him play well. Thanks bud.
Matty, we were very, very happy with the lessons you gave Nicholas - in fact, your lessons made a huge difference in his batting. Your approach was not the typical instructors approach meaning you didn't go through the motions and you were honest with our son in understanding what he needed to work on and we appreciated that. Unfortunately, we do not have an outdoor cage at our house like some of Nick's friends to work on some of the at home skills!! Nicholas looked forward to every lesson and the time he was able to work with you boosted his confidence out on the field.
