More About Coach Matthew
I played the game throughout my childhood, and in college, where I began contemplating and studying it as a possible profession as well. The day after I graduated college in 2009, I moved to New York City to pursue a career in coaching, and I have been fortunate enough to stay on that journey since.
From 2012-2020, I was able to combine my coaching with work for an international company that provides data and editorial content on the professional game to a variety of different sources, including the technical sides of high level teams and Print, Broadcast and Online media . This means that I have had access to large amounts of data on the pro game, as well as sharpened my ability to read the game by watching hours of professional and international games across a variety of leagues and competitions. I have used this experience to improve my coaching by studying the modern game, and the modern player. This is particularly relevant to helping individuals develop, as I feel confident in knowing what is required of players who play specific roles at many different levels across the developmental spectrum.
During the pandemic, I realized that coaching was my true passion, and now I only make money from on field work or video analysis relating directly to on field team organization/performance.
The game is my passion, and I have built my life to be able to study it, and help teams and players improve. I have ambitions to reach the highest levels I can as a coach, and am always looking to learn from other coaches and resources. In the summer of 2012, I was lucky enough to be selected to work at a camp with three FC Barcelona coaches, and I was the only other coach on the staff. I spent an entire week learning from these coaches for eight hours a day, and consider that one of the best learning experiences I have had so far.
I have been lucky enough to work with players who play professionally, at all levels of the college game, and in some of the best academies in the country. I have worked with Gatorade players of the year and helped numerous players elevate their level of play, including helping dozens reach ECNL and MLS next. I have a proven track record of helping teams and players improve, and I thoroughly enjoy committing to that process.
My team coaching philosophy is "I facilitate a process of growth in people, players, and teams (in that order) by teaching strategically modern, tactically flexible, attacking soccer." From this, you can extrapolate that I believe individual improvement is key to being a successful team player in the modern game.
I am looking to work with players who want to grow in the long term, while learning about the game, themselves and what can be accomplished with hard work.
I have my NSCAA Premier License, my US Soccer C license, as well as being CPR certified. I hope to attain my US soccer pro license before I am 45.
I have played my entire life. I was on an elite travel team in middle and high school, but did get serious about my individual development until my junior year of high school. I played high school and club through the ladder and ended up on the Vassar College team, though I didn't see the field a lot in college.

Richard C. -Youth Soccer Parent (Testimonial)
We first met Matt at the Barcelona camp in 2012 and all 3 of our children thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He then coached my older son’s team for several years at a local travel soccer club, greatly impacting the development of the players and team. We value his skills, approach, temperament, and focus on development and sportsmanship. Above all, his character sets him apart from others and he is a positive role model for players of all ages. Our children (14, 13, 10) have all done private trainings, both individual and together, with him for the past 3+ years. He helped our daughter transition from a goalkeeper to a field player on an elite team, elevating both her skills and her confidence, as well as elevating both sons’ games. We have and continue to highly recommend Matt to our friends.
