More About Coach Matthew

I have experience coaching youth club soccer, middle school and high school (boys and girls), as well as limited collegiate. I have have coached at all ages and levels but my preferred age and level is aspiring late elementary and middle school athletes that are serious about getting better to supplement their school and/or club commitments.

I grew up in South Texas playing for Lonestar Soccer Club and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Academy before being recruited to Ohio State. I was fortunate to be nominated a 2-year captain, win multiple Big 10 Championships, receive all conference honors, and compete in the 2007 National Championship as a Freshman. After my Senior season, I was drafted in the 3rd round of the MLS SuperDraft to Toronto FC and played professionally for 4 seasons at various levels in the United States and Canada. I have a passion for character development alongside the traditional elements of the game and I believe this set me apart as a player as well as a coach.

Sessions will be tailored to the needs and desires of the athletes and parents. There are many layers to the technical, tactical, physical, mental and emotional elements of sports, in particular soccer, so sessions will resolve around the appropriate mix of these elements and tailored to the appropriate age. Sessions will always start with a warm-up, have a technical element, a tactical element, and a fitness element when appropriate.

Matthew is great! We've had 2 sessions and are booking regular sessions moving forward. He's very motivating to our son, keeps him on task, and helps him improve his skills. We're extremely happy thus far and looking forward to more!
